Tenby United Youth team took part in the Pembroke Sevens tournament last Friday. They were placed in a pool with Pembroke B and Aberystwyth.

They played Pembroke B in their first match and after settling down went on to win the match with their power and pace by 43 points to nil.

Pembroke could not handle the speed of Gareth Bartlett, the elusiveness of Scott McLoughlin or the power of Robert James.

Try scorers were Gareth Bartlett (2), Will Crockford (2), Tom Lewis, Scott McLoughlin, and Robert James. Conversions - Bartlett, Lewis, McLoughlin, James, Nicky Guymer.

In the next match, Tenby played Aberystwyth. This was a much closer game, with Aberystwyth playing some good sevens rugby.

In a see-saw game, which saw some good work from Nicky Guymer, Chris James and Tom Lewis, Tenby eventually broke the deadlock with a try by Chris James.

Next, Gareth Bartlett scored, converted by Tom Lewis, which put the tie beyond Aberystwyth, with the final score being 12-0 to Tenby.

This now put them through to the semi-finals against the favourites, Haverfordwest, whose squad contained three boys with first team experience.

Tenby gave away two soft tries to let Haverfordwest go 14-0 ahead, but back they came with a try and conversion by Scott McLoughlin. They followed this up with a breakaway try by Will Crockford, showing an amazing turn of speed, to make the half-time score 14-12.

Tenby found the Haverfordwest defence difficult to break down in the second-half, with Haverfordwest managing to score two late tries to make the final score 24-12.

Haverfordwest then went on to win the tournament.

Tenby squad: Gareth Bartlett, Robert James, Chris James, Nicky Guymer, Will Crockford, Tom Lewis, Scott McLoughlin, Jason Newell, Delwyn Brace, Ben Cray, Mark Wooles, James Davies.

Tenby Youth have one game left this season, the Griffiths Cup Final at Neyland tonight (Friday), kick-off 6.45 pm. All support would be extremely welcome.
