6.30 am on a cold and foggy February morning saw a group of Greenhill students gather outside St. Mary's Church, Tenby, to embark on their epic cycle ride to Carmarthen and back.
Chatting amongst themselves several months ago, Harrison Sharp, Jonathan Morris, Anna Devall, Ashley Griffiths, Josh Thomas and Georgia Maher (aged between 13 and 15) felt that they would like to give something back to Tenby Lifeboat for the hard work they do.
With some members of the group spending many hours out on the water sailing and kayaking, they have long recognised the importance of the lifeboat and crew.
So, they decided that they needed to do something worthwhile in order to raise much-needed funds - and a 60-mile cycle ride was put into planning and many hours of training began.
The ride was uneventful, except for Josh, who experienced a puncture just before the 'Welcome to Tenby' sign on the return journey.
Frantic periodic pumping of the tyre en-route between the sign and High Street meant that he completed his journey.
The youngsters completed the ride a little less than eight hours, including a short break in Carmarthen to refuel body and mind.
The cycle ride coincided with the RNLI pancake race in Tenby and received a good mention on Pembrokeshire Radio.
Since starting fundraising in December 2010, the team managed to raise an amazing £660 for the RNLI. This is well beating the target set of £500. However, money is still coming in, and they anticipate that they should raise around £700 by the end.
A massive thank you goes out to the whole team, as well as a massive congratulation. Everyone completed the ride, and all felt like they had done something very worthwhile for the fantastic job the Tenby lifeboat crew do, and all the other stations in the country.
