Tenby's annual Christian Aid festival is once again proving very popular in its annual bid to help distressed families of the world. The town's local committee is putting on an even bigger range of fun things to do - and the early events have raised an impressive amount of money - though much more is needed to beat previous records. Still to come during the Christian Aid festival is a popular lunch at Church House in the grounds of St. Mary's and a dazzling concert featuring the town's award-winning male voice choir. Malcolm Stacey, secretary of the Tenby committee, said: "We're going all out this year to save starving children across the world. Sadly, with food prices rising everywhere, things are getting no better. "But Christian Aid is very experienced at getting the money straight to the heart-rending victims who need it most - and the people of Tenby always rally round at this time of the year to do their bit." Malcolm added: "Contrary to the beliefs of some people, we don't just help Christian people around the world. The aid goes to everyone, regardless of their religion or creed. We stick to our slogan - 'Life before Death'. This Sunday (May 18), there's a special Christian Aid service for all church denominations in St. Mary's at 6 pm. The Salvation Army will provide the sermon. Then comes the traditional Tenby Christian Aid Concert, featuring the town's Male Voice Choir, with special guests. It's on Tuesday, May 20, at 8 pm. Lunchtime recitals, with top musicians, will also be held in the church from Thursday, May 22 to Saturday, May 24, with retiring collections. They begin each day at 12.30 pm. The annual Christian Aid lunch is staged this year at Church House, in the grounds of St. Mary's, at noon on May 28. Tickets are £7.50 each. Meanwhile, hard-working children from Tenby are holding car washes and shoe-shine sessions in the Rectory Car park and the entrance to St. Mary's Church. And there are opportunities to give to Christian Aid in collection boxes in various Tenby churches as the fund-raising festival continues. Anyone who hasn't time to attend these events is kindly invited to either leave money at the door or hand it to Malcolm Stacey at 9 Crackwell Street, Tenby (tel. 01834 843485).
