Local councillors have requested an urgent meeting with Pembrokeshire County Council's new director of development after he scuppered long-running plans for a scheme at one of Tenby's children's play areas. At their meeting on Tuesday night, Tenby Town Council received another letter from Dr. Steven Jones again suggesting that a development of the Jubilee Play Area, which overlooks South Beach, was unlikely to be given approval. "We are mindful of a number of potential new developments in the vicinity of the current play area and feel it appropriate, therefore, to assess the impact of these before agreeing to the location," wrote Dr. Jones. The town council has been working closely in recent months with county council officer Sinead Henehan in progressing a development of the Jubilee Play Area, a project they have been working to get up and running for the past six years. The county council had also offered possible match-funding for the project as part of their 'community regeneration proposals'. "We've been stopped in our tracks because county council have changed their policy on play areas; there's a lot of talk about other developments around that area, but I would like Dr. Jones to meet with us urgently to discuss the matter before six years of work goes down the drain," said Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown. The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, informed members that he had spoken to Dr. Jones's secretary, who would get back to the council with a convenient date for a meeting. Newly-elected onto the council, Clr. Mike Thorne expressed an interest in helping Clr. Mrs Brown with the continuation of the Jubilee Play Area project. "Everyone involved has worked so hard to get the project off the ground that I hope it does not get thwarted," remarked Clr. Trevor Hallett.
