TENBY UTD YOUTH 25pts

PEMBROKE YOUTH 7

Tenby United Youth entertained their Pembroke counterparts in the semi-finals of the Griffiths Cup at Heywood Lane on Saturday.

From the first whistle, the young Seasiders put pressure on the Pembroke team, the back row of Andrew Dennis, captain Robert James and Nicky Guymer winning most of the loose ball and Tom Lewis kicking to perfection.

In fact, it was Lewis who opened the scoring with a penalty.

Tenby varied their game well and the next score was a try in the corner by outside centre Barry Wolverson.

Tenby were keeping Pembroke in their own half and another score was on the cards. It eventually came with their second try, scored by Lewis.

Tenby continued to dominate the linesout through Chris James and James Caine and the front row of Gareth Protheroe, Dean Richards and Tom Beynon worked well as a unit.

After some very near scores, the half-time whistle sounded with Tenby 13-0 ahead.

Tenby seemed to take their foot off the accelerator at the start of the second half and let Pembroke in for a converted try.

For a long period after this, Pembroke put Tenby under pressure, only for the home team defence to hold out.

Centre Rhidian Rees made some inroads for Tenby and near the end of the second half prop Tom Beynon galloped over in the corner.

Right on fulltime, non-stop flanker Andrew Dennis burst through a tired Pembroke defence to run 50 metres for a try under the posts which Tom Lewis converted, to make the final score 25-7 to Tenby.

This now puts the Seasiders through to the final, to be played at Neyland on Friday, May 11, kick-off 6.45 pm.
