A near perfect day, along with some excellent pitches, was the setting for the annual Pennar Junior football tournament. Along with Tenby, other teams taking part were Kilgetty, Pennar, Camrose, Fishguard and St. Clears. Tenby played local rivals Kilgetty in the first game and even with the game ending with a 0-0 draw it had plenty of action at both ends. Tenby's second match was against hosts Pennar and a late goal from Rhys saw the game end 1-0 to Tenby. The third group game saw the boys play Fishguard, who looked a well organised side and to their credit kept Tenby to a 0-0 draw. Camrose were the next side to play and at last the boys started to play football, with crisp passing and good off-the-ball movement. This was too much for a spirited Camrose side and goals from George, Billy and two from Jack was enough to win 4-0. The final game was against St. Clears, who had a well-drilled side and played some good football. With Ben and Harry joined by Jordan, the Tenby defence looked a tough nut to crack, with a hard working Malley always covering as the defenders all pushed into attacking positions. Rhys and George looked every bit on form as they worked so well off each other. And, as for Billy and Jack, they were now running the midfield and the whole team looked to play football and behind all of this, keeping everyone on their toes, was Natty, who was kicking the ball so well. The pressure was always on the opposition as Tenby took control of the game and finished 2-0 winners, with goals from George and Rhys. Now with the top four teams through, Kilgetty played Fishguard and Tenby played St. Clears, and it was St. Clears who took the lead with an early goal which was, to be fair, a collector's piece - a handling error by Natty. But the boys had not travelled to Pennar to lose in the semi-final, so Natty, along with Ben and Jordan, rallied the rest of the team and within minutes Billy drilled in a free- kick to make it 1-1 at half-time. In the second half, Tenby took control and hard work from Malley saw the ball end up at Jack's feet and he fired home to make it 2-1. Still full of running, Harry beat his man and played a ball into the path of George, who with one touch beat the defence and left the 'keeper with no chance and made the score 3-1 to put Tenby in the final. Fishguard had knocked out Kilgetty in the other semi, 1-0, so it was Tenby v Fishguard in the final. And again it was Tenby who went behind with a defensive error that gave Natty no chance. Fishguard had their tails up and played some good football, but as ever, Tenby got back into the game with some good football and a lot of chasing and hard running from everyone. The equaliser came from Rhys early in the second half and, with the Tenby defence solid, Jack and Billy pushed up and added numbers that Fishguard could not handle and their second goal was not long in coming, being scored by Jack. Fishguard seemed to lose heart after this and looked jaded, while at the other end Tenby could sense a victory and finished off the game with a third from George. And that was how it remained, 3-1, and another great effort from all the boys. Thanks to everyone for their support and 'well done boys'. Team: Natty John, Ben Howells, Harry Goforth, Jordan Cornick, Mally Paxton, Billy Truman, Jack Parkinson, George Taylor and Rhys Davis.
