Glorious sunshine again greeted the eighth annual Tenby AFC/Folly Farm Spring Sevens. Thirty teams from around the county and as far as Llanelli, Swansea and Merthyr contested for the trophies in three age groups, Under 8s, 10s and 12s. The Under 8s and 10s played in two pools, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals, while the Under 12s played a straight round-robin format. In the first semi-final of the Under 8s, Kilgetty Vikings faced Clarbeston Road and with the match all square at two each, Clarby just held their nerve to win by the odd penalty in five. The other semi saw Union Rangers against Tenby '8', with the host club proving too strong for their Swansea counterparts. The final was a real cracker, with Tenby twice coming from behind to seal victory against Clarbeston Road by four goals to two. The Under 10s' tournament was equally as exciting, with Tenby '9' sensationally topping their pool to meet Dafen of Llanelli in the semi-final and upsetting the odds by winning two goals to one. Merthyr Saints were their opponents in the final, after they had disposed of Hundleton, three-nil, in their semi-final. The final saw two good footballing sides and, although Tenby had beaten them in the pool rounds, it was the Saints who got the all- important goal in the final. The Under 12s was played as a straight round- robin. With three teams fighting for the honours, it was eventually settled with the last game of the day. Tenby '11' were top of the league having played all their games, winning five and drawing two and with the distinction of not conceding a goal. The outcome of the last match between Tenby '12' and West End of Swansea would decide the winners. A draw would see the 11s clinch it and a win for either of the other sides would see them take the trophies. West End took an early lead, but it was cancelled out before half-time and with less than 60 seconds on the clock, the Tenby '12' got the winning goal, which crowned them champions. All the trophies, which were sponsored by Folly Farm, were presented to the winners and runners- up by Tenby AFC chairman, Huw Bridges (with a little help from Percy Pig). The match balls were kindly donated by N. D. Toy and Partners, Insurance Consultants and Independent Financial Advisers.
