A Tenby couple, touched by the kindness of a number of carers who hail from the Philippines and who have been working in South Pembrokeshire, are sending their thoughts and prayers to their friends and their country following the horrific typhoon which hit causing mass devastation.
Annie and Paul Bradforth came to know several young women from the Philippines who were working as part of a team looking after Paul's late father, the well-known Tenby artist Eric Bradforth.
"One of these young women, Kate Reyes, was a particular favourite of Eric's and mine and I've kept up an email correspondence with her since she returned to the Philippines a month or two before Eric died," explained Annie.
"In the last year, her family home has twice been flooded, the latest occasion as recently as the beginning of October. She sent a heart-renderingly sad email, including photos of the devastation, and telling me how her immediate family had been split up and were living with various friends and other family members. God only knows what has happened to her now."
Annie continued: "I strongly feel the need to express my sorrow at the plight of Kate, her family and friends and the young women and men working here caring for our old and infirm all the while not knowing what's become of their own families. Needless to say, I've had no response to emails and have no way of knowing if Kate is safe. I know there is a sizeable number of Philippinas still here in Tenby, worried about their loved ones, helpless to do anything about it other than hope for the best."
