A town councillor has reaffirmed her belief that the centre of Tenby is struggling badly in the current economic climate, with shops in particular suffering the most.
"I know that Clr. Mike Evans didn't agree at our previous meeting with my notion that the centre of Tenby is 'dying', but I believe that is the case and have had a lot of local people agree with me," said Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council.
"I know reference was made to a lot of businesses on the outskirts of the town doing well, but something has to happen in the centre of the Tenby, the shops are not doing well, it's clear," she claimed.
"I'm glad that the Chamber of Trade and Tourism are trying to address the rates situation, but we also need more local support," she added.
"Hopefully, locals will say that they will shop in Tenby when it is possible to do so; we need everyone's support," agreed Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, also pointed out that he had spotted a National Park officer in the town recently, taking photographs of some of the empty premises in the centre, suggesting that they were taking into account the decline of the resort's shops.
