The unit management committee for Tenby Sea Cadets, registered charity no.524451, recently held their annual general meeting. Following the adoption of last year's minutes, the chairman, Keith Peachey, and the commanding officer, Lt. Roy Broxham, gave detailed reports on the successes and activities undertaken by the cadets and committee. The cadets had some very good results from various courses and activities they had enjoyed at district, area and national level. Cadets had been to sea on TS Royalist and this year the unit had sent a large group of cadets to sea for a week on the TS John Jerwood. This adventure had been very successful and the cadets are all asking when they can go again! The commanding officer gave details of the cadets' community activities with the Royal British Legion poppy appeal, civic events, the Seafarers Charity and the War Graves Commission, as well as a rowathon to raise money for the new Sea Cadet Flag Ship appeal. The management committee had financed improvements to the unit's classrooms, supplied more computers and modern projection equipment, upgraded all the safety boat fleet and played a major part in helping more cadets to enjoy the sea training cruises. The meeting adopted the accounts and balance sheet and re-elected the committee en-bloc and nominated Lt. R. Broxham and Lt. Cdr. K. Peachey as the charity trustees. Tom Peake, the unit president, congratulated the cadets on their achievements and turnout at civic parades and the confidence of these young people. The chairman thanked all the local organisations who had made donations to support the unit with this year's sea cruise. The unit now had 25 senior and junior boys and girls attending regularly. The training facilities and fleet of boats and canoes were in excellent condition for this efficiency pennant standard unit. The Tenby unit, however, urgently needs more male and female adult volunteers to support these young people. These adult volunteers could help out as civilian instructors or take advantage of the SCC courses offered to go into uniform. Adults considering this are very welcome to call in at the unit on Tenby Harbour any Tuesday or Thursday evenings and meet these enthusiastic young people and help them progress to a full potential.
