Tenby Sea Cadets unit has been busy with cadets at Castlemartin Range for a camp craft training weekend and the annual Royal Naval Inspection.

The weekend of training in camp craft saw cadets from across West Wales pitch tents on the camp, different levels of skills, and prepare for a busy weekend. This included navigation, choice of kit required, types of cooking stoves and food stuff to carry.

The Friday night proved testing, with high winds and driving rain, some very damp tents and equipment, but everyone was soon dried out ready to continue the training.

Navigation walks around the area were undertaken so map reading skills could be improved. A shooting session was included during the weekend.

Everyone enjoyed themselves, renewing friendships across the district and gaining new skills. They all gained qualifications in camp craft, so a good outcome.

Tenby unit held its Royal Naval inspection which saw the cadets joined by parents and the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Paul Rapi. The inspection is to assess the standard of training, H&S, dress, community involvement, and each unit across the UK has to reach an efficiency standard.

The inspecting officer was Commander Nigel Morton RN, SW area officer. The cadets took part in colours and inspection at the start of the evening, then took part in a PTI demonstration, leadership exercises and a presentation of the year’s activities.

The evening concluded with presentations to cadets, the Mayor presented the unit with a certificate of thanks for the support the unit gives to the community of Tenby and evening colours.

Following the Commander’s verbal report to the cadets, everyone enjoyed a buffet at the Sailing Club, so thanks very much TSC for the use of your facilities. They now await the final written report.

The unit now moves into the boating season, waterborne competitions and a much more relaxed period.

If you are interested in becoming involved in the unit as a cadet, instructor or committee member, contact the unit on a Tuesday/Thursday evening or ring (01834) 843708.
