Tenby has been presented with a Silver Gilt in the RHS Britain in Bloom campaign, one of the largest horticultural campaigns in Europe.
The awards ceremony, attended by over 450 community and gardening champions, was held on Wednesday night at the Centennial Centre in Birmingham, hosted by BBC Gardeners' World and Edible Garden presenter Alys Fowler.
Tenby, which recently picked up the best 'small country town' crown for the 26th time in the Wales In Bloom event, was pipped by North Berwick in Scotland, in their 'Coastal (12k and below)' category at the Britain In Bloom awards.
The Royal Horticultural Society is the UK's leading gardening charity and through its Britain in Bloom campaign encourages people to join together to improve their local environments.
Over 1100 communities across the UK participate and this year 66 finalists were chosen to represent their region/nation in the UK finals. Each entry is judged on achievements in horticulture, environmental responsibility and community participation.
RHS judges said: "During the tour it was apparent that there is a real sense of pride in the history of Tenby, which was reflected in the care of its buildings and beach."
Roger Burnett, chair of the RHS Britain in Bloom national judging panel, said: "2010 has seen a bumper crop of entries into the national finals with many achieving top medals despite difficult times and a severe winter and late spring. This combined with Local Authority budgets being ever more stretched has seen various communities up and down Great Britain really pulling out all the stops.
"As judges we look for winners; however the real winners are the people who take part in Britain in Bloom, who tirelessly work for the benefit of their community. The Bloom initiative is now, and will continue to be, the best example of David Cameron's 'Big Society' in action. All our communities have ownership of their environment and are continually looking at ways to take on responsibility for making their individual spaces cleaner, greener and safer for all to enjoy."
Chairman of Tenby in Bloom, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who attended the awards ceremony with vice-chairman, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, and Pembrokeshire County Council's Glenville Codd and Brian Maddocks, said she was delighted with the accolade.
"We have done exceptionally well," she said.
At the ceremony, Wolfcastle, near Haverfordwest, was joint gold winner in the 'Small Village' category, along with Stanghow, Northumbria.
