The ladies of Tenby Save the Children have been very busy over the last few months, together with various schools and clubs in the vicinity.

Firstly, there was a repeat of the very popular Tales of Tenby, this time entitled Ripping Yarns held in Church House in November. Local talent took to the stage and told some very interesting tales, raising just over £400.

Templeton School raised £223 through various activities and decided between the pupils to give the money to Save the Children.

Pupils from St. Teilo’s Roman Catholic School raised £90 from their Christmas jumper day, while Tenby VC Infants School held two events to celebrate Christmas jumper day. One was a colouring competition of a Christmas jumper, won by Jessica Page and Ollie Price, with the second being a Christmas jumper day which raised a magnificent £250.

The ladies of the committee made tiny Christmas jumpers (some better than others) and hung them on a modern Christmas tree for St. Mary’s Church Christmas crib event.

Tenby Ladies Golf Club went out to play golf on a freezing cold day festooned in their Christmas jumpers and had a great time whilst raising £85.

Since Tenby Save the Children started just 14 months ago, they have raised nearly £6,000 for the charity. Part of this money will be Government matched, therefore doubling the amount.

This money will be used towards various crises, but the main one at the moment is Syria and the refugees. This money will buy shelters for families and contribute towards continuing schooling for the children that has been displaced by the war.

Save the Children also will use some of the funds towards projects here in the UK, e.g. - Families and Schools Together (FAST) which is an award-winning early-intervention programme that brings parents, children, teachers and the wider community together, to make sure children get the support they need to fulfil their potential at school - and in life.

The next major event for Tenby in 2016 will be a Spring Ball on May 21 in the De Valence Pavilion, Tenby, in conjunction with NSPCC.

The tickets will be £35 or tables of 10 for £350 and businesses in the community are being encouraged to show their support by taking corporate tables.
