The theme in our service this Sunday morning was love (writes Marie Morton). The Bible readings, songs, children's story, the message in word and the message in song by Tenby Salvation Army Songsters all created a beautiful vision of this love; the vision was of Jesus himself.
The first song we sang entitled 'God's Love to me is Wonderful' gave us a vision of a God who loves us beyond what we can comprehend, who hears us, even if we whisper, and who is there for us.
The children's story, light-hearted but powerful, emphasised the vision of Jesus as we see Him in Psalm 23, as the good shepherd looking for the sheep who was lost.
The children's story was told to us by Polly the Parrot and Major Denise Clements. Before they began the story, Major Denise Clements happened to point out that we had not heard from Polly for a while, this got a quiet but not quiet enough, 'Hallelujah!' from Major Martyn Clements and Polly immediately squawked at him in protest and told him off while the rest of us laughed. As Polly continued with the story, everything he said complemented Psalm 23, which was one of our Bible readings, beautifully. A picture of the story was then given out for children to colour in.
The message in song by Tenby Salvation Army Songsters entitled 'I Heard the Voice' gave us a vision of Jesus calling us to come to Him, because He loves us and has so much He wants to give us. He was calling us to come, rest, live and be safe with Him.
When Major Martyn Clements spoke to us the message in word, he began by expressing his desire for us to feel loved by God and for us to recognise that we really are loved by God. Through Psalm 23, he created for us a vision of a God who gives us everything we need; food, water, love, value and safety. A God who values us so much that He will come and look for us personally and care for us personally. A God who also wants to protect and guide us personally. A God who will listen out for us, hear our cries and answer us. A God who is happy when He finds us, and who is thrilled when we go to Him. We could then see with a fresh vision a God who delights in us and a God who wants us and loves us.
During the final words that Major Martyn Clements spoke, he told us that if we ever forget how valuable we are, then we are to remember these words: 'God loves me so much that He sent His one and only son for me.'
