SUMMER SERIES

Sunday saw the second round of the club summer series. The first race was run by race officer Danny Owen in light conditions and was dominated and won by Paul Redford and Steve Garvey in their Osprey after a first upwind leg where they established an unassailable lead. Ted Lewis, with guest crew Richard Sadler, took second and Mike Stace and Deanna Morton were third.

The second race followed immediately in slightly more wind. Once again Paul and Steve were right on the pace, but the win went to Dan Jackson in his RS600, with Paul and Steve in second and Mike and Deanna a consistent third.

Ted and Richard lost the plot; sailed the wrong course, broke their spinnaker pole and Richard almost fell out of the boat! Better luck next time.

Sailing News for our 75th year

As mentioned in previous articles, the complete programme of racing fixtures and training is now on the website. Fixture cards are available at the club and copies have been sent out to members.

The first cruiser race is on Easter Monday, April 25, with 16 races planned for the season.

Junior sail training will start on April 27. We have taken delivery of some new club dinghies which will be available for use by our more experienced juniors.

This being our 75th year we are planning some celebration events - watch this space!

New Boats Launch Evening

We have acquired, for the junior section, a fleet of new Optimists and Toppers due to a great deal of fundraising. Next Wednesday, April 20, there will be a formal launch of our new acquisitions attended by representatives of several organisations who, by their generous donations, enabled the club to replenish its junior fleet.

The junior fleet constantly needs updating due to heavy usage. To this end, there will be a concert given by Tenby Male Choir on Thursday, May 5, at St. Mary's Church. Members please support the junior section.

Jam Evening

A most pleasant evening was had by the musicians who took part in last Monday's acoustic jam session. The next acoustic jam is scheduled for Monday, May 18. Don't miss it.

Darts

Still under the euphoria of the previous week's success, we were quietly confident we could pull off a surprise win. Alas, normality returned with a vengeance. We were firmly put in our place by a spirited darting outfit from the Bowling Club.

Our only successes of the evening came from Bob 'steady' Wilcox and Paul 'double 14' Thomas.

It's difficult to find appropriate words to describe the form shown by the remainder of the team.

This (Friday) evening we are away to Saundersfoot Sailing Club for the final match of the season. Saundersfoot will be keen to avenge a narrow defeat when they visited us earlier in the year.

Captain, Terry Evans will have to lead by example to inspire the team to, hopefully, victory. Watch this space.

Wine Tasting Evening

The wine-tasting evening held at the club last Saturday was attended by several members and friends. Wines from various countries were tried and commented upon.

Clare, the Molson-Coors representative, was impressed by the turnout and the broad knowledge of the members.

Commodore, Terry Evans, thanked all for making the evening such a success and Clare for her contribution to the evening.

Club Race Officer Course

The race officer course run by national race officer, Blake Shaw, was very well attended and most enlightening. Many thanks to Blake for putting in the time and effort. Those club members who attended are now in a much better position to run club races.

Fitting-Out Supper

The fitting-out steak evening scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) has now been re-arranged for Saturday, April 23. Would members please contact Terry Evans on 844256 or 07796084003 with their choices if they intend to participate.
