Wednesday Racing

Warm and sunny conditions for the Wednesday evening race saw four Ospreys, an RS500, RS Vareo and a Wayfarer compete in the club race run by Mark Dashfield in a force 2-3 north-westerly breeze.

One of the largest tides of the year presented an unexpected difficulty as first the southern and then the eastern marks disappeared beneath the waves, making navigation a problem for the competitors. The southern was replaced by the rescue boat and the eastern by a pot buoy a little further out, making the race practical.

At the start it was the late arriving Osprey of Ted Lewis and guest crew Marc Shepherd away first, with Anthea and Paul Evenden in hot pursuit, followed by the remainder of the fleet.

Paul Redford and Ned Thiverton enjoyed a close and successful battle with Nick Berridge and Richard John in their Ospreys; Danny Owen in his Vareo and Paul and Anne Thomas in the club Wayfarer enjoyed the conditions and sailed two competitive laps at the back of the fleet, being the slower boats on handicap. Ed Dashfield and Emily Kirby in the RS500 found the course not to their liking, involving a long run, followed by a reach too tight for their spinnaker.

After two pleasant laps, it was Ted and Marc first, Paul and Anthea second and Ed and Emily third.

Apart from the racing, it was pleasing to see young Jonathan Morris out on the water in his new RS600. There are now three of these challenging craft in the fleet at Tenby and all look forward to Jonathan mastering his new dinghy and becoming a competitive member of the racing fleet.

Junior Sailing

Again the hordes of trainees descended on the club to enjoy a very successful evening's training in trying conditions. Many thanks to principal instructor, Blake Shaw, and all who helped.

If any member can help, please contact Blake Shaw on 842535 or Terry Evans on 844256. Again, thanks in anticipation.

As usual Terry Evans's universally acclaimed BBQs took place, with the hordes of salivating trainees and sailors tasting some superb food. These BBQs will continue throughout the summer, so please support Terry and the club.

Adult Training

After the intensity of championship racing, the Saturday adult training run by Mark Dashfield takes place as usual tomorrow, commencing at 3 pm. These are proving very popular, including Toppers, Fevas and a RS Vareo.

I understand that the demand to participate is increasing - trainees should contact their trainer prior to the Saturday session. New trainees should contact Mark Dashfield on 844918 or Terry Evans on 844256.
