Wednesday Racing

Wednesday evening's club race took place in perfect conditions. Bright warm sunshine and a force2/3 westerly with a flat sea is as good as it gets. Race officer Nick Berridge and Richard John set a triangular course from Monkstone, into the harbour then back out to the southern and back to the start. At the usual competitive start, Ted Lewis and Matt Goldwait found themselves squeezed out at the rescue boat end of the line by the Ospreys of Mike Stace and Rolly Squibbs and had to give way, meaning they were last over the line. By the end of the first beat, Mike and Deanna rounded first, followed closely by Ted and Matt then Rolly and Marc. Ed Dashfield and Emily Kirby in their RS500 were in close attendance and Tommy and Connor in the 49er was somewhere on the race course going so fast it was hard to keep track of it. The first reach was tight with spinnakers hoisted, too tight for Mike who had to drop his ceding the top spot in the Osprey tussle to Ted and Matt, and then on the next lap to Rolly and Marc. The RS500 and the 49er continued to perform to handicap and at the end of 3 laps on corrected time first went to Ed and Emily then Ted and Matt followed by the 49er.

Club Youth Racing Circuit (CYRC)

Several juniors, including a large Tenby contingent, turned up for the CYRC event held last Saturday at Tenby. With light winds being the order of the day, only three races were held. With a strong tide and little wind, some the competitors found it difficult to reach the wind ward mark. They persevered and eventually the three races were completed.

The final positions were as follows: Optimist Fleet - Harvey Upton, of Teifi Sailing Club; Edward Upton, of Teifi Sailing Club; Ben Roberts, of Saundersfoot Sailing Club.

Topper Fleet: Megan Boorman, of Saundersfoot Sailing Club; Harry Upton, of Teifi Sailing Club; Alex Brace, of Tenby Sailing Club

Laser Fleet: Jonathan Morris, of Tenby Sailing Club; Kelly Mayhew, of Neyland Yacht Club.

Prizes were presented by Chris Jeffreys, of Welsh Sailing. He thanked all at Tenby for their contribution to a successful event. He reminded the juniors of the next CYRC events which will be held at Dale Sailing Club on July 17 and at Fishguard Sailing Club on September 11. There will also be a special event at Llangorse on September 3 and 4.

Cruise in Company

Members and friends who took part in the annual cruise in company had a most enjoyable day at Barafundle beach. Due to the prevailing southerly, the original choice of Swanlake beach had to be abandoned. The 40+ revellers enjoyed BBQs galore and the 'younger' members had a go at various watersports, including a bouncing doughnut. Several types of craft were used to get to Barafundle, including yachts, ribs and powerboats. It was a fitting end to a most enjoyable trip undertaken by two of Tenby's well-known yachts, Allegretto and Charismoe, crewed by Paula and Anthea Evenden and Chris and Izzie Lawrence respectively, who had just returned from a harbour hop of the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel starting from Tenby and ending up in Padstow.

Welsh Schools Championships

The Welsh Schools Championships will be held this weekend at Mumbles Sailing Club. We are hoping for a large Tenby entry.

Super Saturday Series

The second of the super Saturday series starts this Saturday. This is a series of three Saturdays where the emphasis is on getting boats on the water. This is meant to be a fun series where members of all abilities can enjoy sailing and experience the thrills of racing. The first race is at 6pm tomorrow.

County Regatta and Round Caldey Race

The County Regatta will take place on Saturday, July 10, at Tenby. The annual round Caldey race will tale place on Sunday, July 11.

Junior Sailing

The usual plethora of enthusiastic trainees turned up for the scheduled training session. Again conditions were such that the sailing was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part. Many thanks to principal instructor, Blake Shaw, and all who help for making these sessions so successful. If any member can help please contact Blake Shaw on 842535 or Terry Evans on 844256. Thanks in anticipation. Again, Terry Evans's universally acclaimed BBQs took place with the hordes of salivating trainees and sailors tasting some superb food. These BBQs will continue throughout them summer so please support Terry and the club.

RYA Training Centre

The club is honoured and delighted to be awarded the coveted title of RYA Training Centre. To be awarded this prestigious status the club had to pass very stringent requirements in full. Many thanks to Commodore Terry Evans and principal training officer Blake Shaw and in particular to Alistair Mackay, for their time and effort in securing this award. It means the club can now run courses and issue certificates for sailing and powerboat competency at various levels.

Howard

Howard will be serving food this evening. Come on down and enjoy great food in warm and convivial surroundings.

Jam Evening

The next session will be next Monday, July 12. Don't miss it. It's the place to be!
