Wednesday, May 26

A blustery force four north-easterly sprang up for the evening race on Wednesday. A triangular course was set and the three Ospreys of Mike Stace and Deanna Morton, Paul and Anthea Evenden and Paul Redford with crew Steve Glarvey were pursued from the reaching start by Dan Jackson and Danny Owen in a miracle. Mike and Deanna found the conditions to their liking and sailed away to a comfortable win, with some fast surfing down the waves in the rough conditions. Paul and Anthea just beat Paul and Steve for third place.

Sunday

An unpredictable north-westerly gusting and shifting and disappearing at will teased the fleet for Sunday's two races.

The first race on a triangular course saw all boats away at a competitive start. Tommy D'Ortez and Connor Keohane in the 49er were first to the windward mark and continued upright for the whole race to take the win on the water. Behind them the usual battle in the Osprey fleet was convincingly won by Ted Lewis and Matt Goldwait, enjoying some fast spinnaker reaching in the blustery wind.

On corrected time, it was Ted and Matt first, Mike and Deanna second and the 49er in their season's first podium finish in third.

In the second windward/ leeward race, Mike and Deanna set the pace with a good first beat. Tommy and Connor took a swim, putting them out of contention. Ted and Matt plugged away in a declining wind trying to catch Mike and Deanna.

At the finish, it was Mike and Deanna a couple of boat lengths ahead of Ted and Matt, with Paul Redford and Steve Glarvey in third.

Adult Training

The second Saturday adult training run by Mark Dashfield begins tomorrow commencing at 3 pm. It is intended to run these Saturday sessions throughout the sailing season. As per last season, trainees should contact their trainer prior to the Saturday session. New trainees should contact Mark Dashfield on 844918 or Terry Evans on 844256.

Junior Sailing

The usual band of enthusiastic trainees turned up for a superb evening's sailing. Many thanks to principal instructor, Blake Shaw, and all who help for making these sessions so successful. If any member can help, please contact Blake Shaw on 842535 or Terry Evans on 844256. Thanks in anticipation.

The first of Terry Evans's universally acclaimed BBQs took place with the hordes of salivating sailors tasting some superb food. These BBQs will continue throughout the summer, so please support Terry and the club.

Saturday BBQ

Due to a club function, there will be no food laid on this evening - the club will be open as usual to members and friends. However, tomorrow (Saturday) evening, the legendary Terry Evans will be putting on a BBQ. All are welcome.

Super Saturday Series

The first of the super Saturday series starts this Saturday. This is a series of three Saturdays where the emphasis is on getting boats on the water. It is not part of the overall season, so any boats are permitted. This is an ideal opportunity for crews and helms to swap. Adult learners and juniors are most welcome. This is meant to be a fun series where members of all abilities can enjoy sailing and experience the thrills of racing. The first race is at 6 pm tomorrow. As mentioned above, there will be a BBQ to satisfy the ravenous.

Jam Evening

The next session will be on Monday, June 14. Don't miss it. It's the place to be!
