Food Club
Nick is not on duty this weekend. In his place will be Terry Evans eager to placate the ravenous amongst you. This (Friday) evening he will be laying on a limited choice of simple but very tasty food with real chips! Come on down and enjoy great food in warm and convivial surroundings.
Club Race
Officer Forum
An evening of instruction and discussion regarding the role of the club race officer will be held tomorrow (Saturday) evening. All members and friends are invited to attend a shore-based insight into running club races, including course setting, start sequences and recording results. Come and enjoy this light-hearted refresher course and then test your skills on the water on Sunday (see below). Further details from Blake Shaw on 842535. As mentioned above, there will also be food available.
Volunteer Day
A volunteer day will be held on Sunday. By popular demand, the club is again running a day of volunteer training in all aspects of on-shore and on-the-water activities. These include safety boat preparation; tractor driving and towing; basic and advanced safety boat handling; mark laying and course setting; capsize righting and towing etc. Put all the theory learnt the previous evening into practice and learn to drive the brand new Blue Duck II .Turn up at 10 am on Sunday. Volunteers form
The 2010 Volunteer Fact Sheet is now available on the website or from the clubhouse. Please complete, stating your interests, and return as soon as possible to Mark Dashfield. The club is extremely proud and recognises the important role of our volunteers: come and join the Tenby Sailing Club Team in these very worthwhile activities which are great fun. Without you, the club could not begin to operate its multitude of activities!
Club Racing
Members please note - the first club race is on Sunday, April 4. The full fixture list is available on the website and the cards are being sent out shortly
Jam Evening
The jam evening held last week was a most entertaining affair, with several musicians giving of their best. The music was varied, including some great blues numbers. Many thanks to Nick Thomas and Terry Evans for co-ordinating the evening. The next jam session will be on Monday, April 19. Don't miss it, it's the place to be!
Newsletter
A newsletter is presently being sent to members. There will be some available at the clubhouse. It contains news and times of sailing and social events.
RYA training Courses
During the last few weeks, members of the club have been busy 'brushing-up' their knowledge and skills in preparation for the new sailing season starting April.
This has been based on the RYA training schemes and examinations which are universally accepted as the gold standard in sailing. Working in conjunction with other accredited providers, the following courses have been completed:
First Aid with Saundersfoot Sailing Club - Blake Shaw, Rolly Squibbs, Ruth Tebbutt, Alistair Mackay.
VHF radio operators certificate with River Towy Yacht Club - Mark Dashfield, Ed Dashfield, Emily Kirby, Sally Simmonds, Paul Redford, Danny Owen, Paul Redford, Roger Hughes, John Akrill.
The following courses were organised with Pembrokeshire Activity Centre:
Power boat level 2 - two-day course - Alistair Mackay, Danny Owen, Marc Shepherd, Tommy D'Ortez .
First Aid - Paul Evenden, Tommy D'Ortez, Danny Owen.
Safety boat - two-day course - Tommy D'Ortez, Danny Owen, Alistair Mackay, Connor Keohane, Paul Evenden.
Day skipper theory - six-day course - Alastair Knibb, Danny Owen, Connor Keohane
All agreed the courses were very well organised with excellent tutors: even the more experienced members learnt some new skills! With a 100 per cent pass rate, the safety cover Tenby can provide for the coming sailing events will be of the highest standard possible.
Laying-up Supper or The Great Steak Evening
On Saturday, April 3, Terry Evans will be putting on a steak evening to kick-start the new season. Please contact Terry on 844256 if you intend to participate - it's always useful to know approximately the numbers. A fish option will be available.
