Sunday sailing
Sunday, November 2: Sunday morning was bright and sunny with a strong force four or five northerly wind, and very cold. The sea was dark blue with a light chop thrown up by the wind, and white horses in the bay.
Only three boats took to the water for the club race, due in part to the fancy dress party the night before, one normal competitor suffering a severe dose of man flu (Dan Jackson).
The Ospreys of Mike Stace and Deanna Morton and Ted Lewis and Matt Goldwait were joined at the start line by the RS500 of Edward Dashfield and Emily Kirby.
Conditions were a little heavy for the RS500, but the Ospreys revelled in the breeze. Race officer Alistair Mackay set a starboard triangular course and at the start it was the Osprey of Mike Stace away first on port tack, closely followed by the two other boats.
Positions were maintained to the windward mark, despite a very close port/starboard incident between the Ospreys, and the boats bore off to go down wind. The first reach was quite broad, so spinnakers were hoisted and the boats shot off towards the jibe mark.
The RS500 found conditions challenging and capsized, losing them significant distance. The contest between the Ospreys was nip and tuck and continued for three laps. On the final beat, Ted and Matt passed Mike and Deanna and maintained their lead down the two subsequent reaches to take the win, closely followed by Mike and Deanna and with the RS500 bringing up the rear.
Unfortunately, the conditions last Sunday were such that racing was not an option. Let us hope that this Sunday's weather is favourable.
Darts
We were annihilated! Whitewashed! We couldn't hit a barn door if it was put in front of us! After such an exhibition of darting incompetence, it's just as well there is no match this evening. We have a week to recover and regroup. Captain, Terry Evans and vice-captain, Colin Parmenter will have to rally the members for next week's fixture.
Steak Evening
The second steak and faggots extravaganza takes place this evening. Chef, Terry Evans, would appreciate if participating members and friends would indicate their preference so that he can acquire sufficient stock. He can be contacted on 844256. As a bonus, the Wales v Canada game will be shown on our big screen!
