Last Sunday's conditions were enjoyed by a large turnout which included some newly-purchased Ospreys which, including the commodore's recent acquisition, makes the Tenby fleet up to nine! A light wind from the SE at the start built to a force 3 by the second lap. With two good beam reaches, the Ospreys powered along under spinnaker, quite a sight. A slight collision at the gybe mark when Ted Lewis sailed into the stern of Rolly Squibbs's Osprey meant Mike Stace duly overtook Ted as he did his penalty turns. It was neck and neck to the finish, with the RS600 enjoying the conditions to take the win. Other points worth mentioning - Bill Dowell was out for the first time with crew Nan D'Ortez in Osprey 1330 and Colin Parmenter also made the effort in his recently-acquired Osprey. After handicaps were taken into account, the final 1-2-3-4-5 was: 1. Daniel Jackson in a RS600; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Marc Shepherd in an Osprey; 3. Tommy D'Ortez in a Laser; 4. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in an Osprey; 5. Ted Lewis and Matt Goldwait in an Osprey. Last Saturday saw 20 visiting yachts enjoying the club's hospitality after taking part in the annual Hobbs Point to Tenby Passage race. After sailing times of five to nine hours, the sailors were very appreciative of the now legendary Terry Evans's BBQ. Many thanks to Karin Morris and Ruth Tebbutt for their contribution to the success of the aforementioned culinary soirée. A special mention to Joe who ferried the helms and crews back and fore to their respective yachts. Last week, several of our cruiser fraternity took part in a series of races on the Haven. Our commodore, Daniel Jackson, with varied crews, had a very successful week. He achieved three firsts and a second in his yacht, Artful Dodger, to take the title of Neyland Yacht Club Keelboat week, division three champion. Well done Daniel!

County Regatta

This year it is Tenby's turn to host the annual Pembrokeshire Yachting Federation County Regatta. This takes place on Saturday, June 30. A large turnout is anticipated, with a great variety of dinghy classes being represented. To finish proceedings off in a musical manner, we have acquired the services of the well known local band, Loose Change, headed by Will Scott. They always entertain. On Sunday, July 1, the annual round Caldey race takes place, which will include dinghies and cruisers. Will the record time of 44 minutes be broken this year? Watch this space. As always these events don't just happen. Hence the usual plea for anyone who can offer any assistance either on or off the water. If you are able to help, please contact the commodore on 813397 as soon as possible.
