The first race of the Icebreaker series got under way last Sunday with a good westerly breeze and plenty of sunshine.

Race officer Angelo Fecci set a very demanding short course to keep the competitors together and to warm them up as they worked hard in the gusty conditions.

Nick Berridge's Phantom was first to cross the start line, debatably early, but racing continued with the RS 600 hot on his heels. The Osprey of Mike and Deanna hoisted the kite early, but had to drop it at the gybe mark to keep her steady on the beam reach to the leeward mark. Star of the future, Max Randles, sailing in the club Feva with crew Rosie Brace, had a good battle with Alex Hamilton in his Topper, until a bit of over enthusiastic spinnaker use saw them take a swim! At the finish, the RS 600 had done enough to take the win. Results: 1. Rs600 - Dan Jackson; 2. Phantom - Nick Berridge; 3. Topper - Alex Hamilton; 4. RS Feva - Max Randalls and Rosie Brace. Big thanks to race officer Angelo and beachmaster Peter Randles for all their hard work.   Racing as usual on Sunday starting at 11 am promptly. Thanks to Daniel Jackson for this sailing report.
