Sail Training

As mentioned in previous articles, the uptake of these training sessions is on the increase. The multitude of prospective Olympic champions are progressing well - so much so that Mark Dashfield has formed a race training group which, it is hoped, will take part in club racing. Indeed, it was a family affair, with Ed Dashfield, senior instructor, taking the beginners class in Optimists and Rhiannon Dashfield teaching the intermediate sailors. Again the usual plea for help in any way. Please note that due to the championships (see below) there will be no sail training on Wednesdays, August 9 or 23.

Racing

Wednesday again attracted a large fleet to do battle on the high seas. I'm delighted to report that a Wayfarer stole podium position which delighted Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson. Anthea is having a great week, having achieved a first class honours degree in mental nursing. The club congratulates Anthea on a superb achievement. The final 1-2-3 was as follows: 1. Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson in a Wayfarer; 2. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 3. Rolly Squibbs and Marc Shepherd in a Redwing. Sunday saw the second leg of the Tenby versus Saundersfoot series of races off Monkstone. As last week, Tenby had a slight edge, which meant an overall victory for our commodore, Daniel Jackson. The results were as follows: Race one: 1. Daniel Jackson (Tenby) in a RS600; 2. Govan Berridge (Tenby) in a Laser; 3. Nick Berridge (Tenby) in a Phantom; 4. Paul Griffiths (Saundersfoot) in a Laser. Race two: 1. Daniel Jackson (Tenby) in a RS600; 2. Ted Lewis (Tenby) in a Phantom; 3. Rolly Squibbs and Marc Shepherd (Tenby) in a Redwing; 4. Paul Griffiths (Saundersfoot) in a Laser . Race three: 1. Daniel Jackson (Tenby) in a RS600; 2. Govan Berridge (Tenby) in a Laser; 3. Nick Berridge (Tenby) in a Phantom; 4. Nathan Spiller (Tenby) in a Vortex 1-2-3-4 overall: 1. Daniel Jackson (Tenby) in a RS600; 2. Nick Berridge (Tenby) in a Phantom; 3. Rolly Squibbs and Marc Shepherd in a Redwing; 4. Nathan Spiller (Tenby) in a Vortex. Well done to commodore, Daniel Jackson, for taking first spot - not a mean achievement considering the opposition. The cruiser race which took place last Monday finished as follows: 1. Rolly Squibbs in yacht Beagle; 2. Mike Stace in yacht Sibling; 3. John Griffiths in yacht Tejeda. Rolly was delighted to record this memorable win as was his intrepid crew, Bob Wilcox! There's no sailing this Sunday due to the Merlin Rockets National Championships.

Powerboat Success

I'm delighted to report the success of Angelo Fecci in the recent Welsh final of the junior powerboat championships. He will now represent Tenby and the Welsh nation in the grand final at Southampton. Should he be successful, he will earn the club a state-of-the-art rib. Come on Angelo!

Merlin Rockets National Championships

The Merlin Rockets National Championships are finally upon us. To run a championship of this magnitude takes a lot of effort and planning by several key members. To make their lives easier requires a large number of volunteers. Should anyone be in a position to help in any way, please contact commodore Daniel Jackson on 813387 or Terry Evans on 844256. Thanks in anticipation.

Blues Jam Evening

Another superb evening of great music. Many thanks to Terry Evans and Bruce Campell for co- ordinating the event. These evenings get better and better, especially when accompanied by the legendary Terry Evans BBQ. Many thanks to Karin Morris and Julia Dashfield for their invaluable contribution to the success of the evening. The next jam session will take place on Wednesday, August 23, not on August 16 as originally suggested. Participating members and friends please note.
