Saturday saw the first race of the cruiser section. A large turnout enjoyed the light, but sometimes frustrating conditions. The final 1-2-3 was as follows:

1. Mike Stace in yacht Sibling; 2. Rolly Squibbs in yacht Beagle; 3. John Griffiths in yacht Tejeda. Sunday's sailing attracted the usual band of sailing enthusiasts. Conditions were light which, as last week, suited the Redwing fraternity. The final 1-2 -3 was as follows:

1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Mark Shepherd in a Redwing; 3. Nick Berridge in a Phantom.

Junior Sailing

The number of juniors attending the Wednesday sessions is increasing weekly. A record number turned out last Wednesday, which was most encouraging. Success brings its own problems - more helpers would be appreciated to assist in rigging, launching etcetera.

The conditions were very light indeed, with the wind speed dropping off to nil by the end of the session. However, all trainees thoroughly enjoyed their time on the water and were eager to experience slightly stronger conditions.

All trainees and instructors were treated to the universally acclaimed Terry Evans BBQ -many thanks to Karin Morris for her gargantuan efforts. More of the same next week.

The club has, in the last couple of days, acquired three brand new dinghies, which will enhance the training fleet. A new class of dinghy called a Tera, a one-person boat specifically designed for junior sailing, impressed the club.

Adult Sail Training

Every year the club runs a 'come and try' session for adults who may be interested in learning to sail. This takes place this weekend, beginning with a land-based session in the clubhouse and dinghy park. Proceedings get under way at 6.15 pm this evening.

Tuition, as in the case of junior sail training, is given by well qualified and experienced sailors. If any adult would like to take up the offer, please contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further details.
