Last weekend the club was host to sailors from far and wide. The annual open meeting attracted sailors who sailed a variety of dinghy classes. Both days' racing included three races back to back. The race management of Blake Shaw and Mark Dashfield set courses in keeping with the sometimes unpredictable wind conditions. Separate courses were set for the asymmetric fleet and the main handicap fleet. Racing was close in both categories, with only a 10th of a second separating some competitors. The results were as follows. Asymmetric Fleet: Saturday - 1. Ben Jones in a 505; Sunday - 1. Ben Jones in a 505; overall - 1. Ben Jones in a 505, 2. Max Jones in a RS200. Handicap Fleet: Saturday - 1. Mathew Butler in a Fireball, 2. Mike Stace in a Redwing; Sunday - 1. Mathew Butler in a Fireball, 2. Mike Stace in a Redwing; overall - 1. Mathew Butler in a Fireball, 2. Daniel Jackson in a RS600, 3. Mike Stace in a Redwing, 4. Tommy D'Ortez in a Laser, 5. Paul Evenden in a Wayfarer. Congratulations to the youngest competitor, Daniella Rowe, who completed all six races in an Optimist. The prizes were presented by commodore, Daniel Jackson, who thanked all who had contributed to the success of the weekend. The overall winner, Mathew Butler, who hails from Hereford and sails at Llangorse, thanked the club for its warm welcome and superb race management. He looked forward to the club regatta, which takes place on the weekend of June24/25.

Junior Sailing

Last week's attendance was most encouraging. The enthusiasm shown by these young trainees is second to none. The conditions were perfect for a training session, especially for the absolute novices. Many thanks to Ed Dashfield and company who helped in making everything 'tick over' so smoothly. All trainees and instructors were treated to the now legendary Terry Evans BBQ - many thanks to Karin Morris for her gargantuan efforts. More of the same next week.

Adult Sail Training

Every year the club runs a 'come and try' session for adults who may be interested in learning to sail. This year the event takes place on the weekend of May 19/20/21. Tuition, as in the case of junior sail training, is given by well qualified and experienced sailors. If any adult would like to take up the offer, please contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further details.
