Last Wednesday saw a multitude of young trainees descending on Tenby harbour. The principal instructor was impressed by the numbers and the steady progress made by these enthusiastic juniors. Numbers seem to be increasing by the week, which means we require a greater number of volunteers to help out. Should any parent or member be in a position to help, it would be greatly appreciated. As well as the training, racing took place, with several members enjoying the light conditions. The final 1-2-3 could not have been closer, with only five seconds separating first and second and 25 seconds separating first and third. Close or what? The podium positions were as follows: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson in a Wayfarer; 3. Ted lewis in a Phantom. The evening was suitably rounded off by Terry Evans's BBQ, renowned throughout the galaxies. Many thanks to Karin Morris for her invaluable contribution to the success of the evening. Sunday drew the usual stalwarts to do battle on the high seas. As Wednesday, the racing was close, with the Redwing of Mike Stace again taking the honours. The final 1-2-3 was: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Nathan Spiller in a Laser Vortex; 3. Paul Evenden and Anthea Shaw in a Wayfarer. Paul and Anthea, I understand, are still celebrating their run of podium places. Racing as usual this Sunday and next Wednesday.

PASSAGE RACE

Twenty-six cruisers started the annual race from Hobbs Point to Tenby. Conditions were very light, which meant progress would not be as quick as last year. All the participants made it out of the Haven, where the winds dropped substantially. As the fleet slowly headed towards Crows Rock, some of the participants made the decision to motor to Tenby. The wind did increase in strength slightly. This, accompanied by a strong favourable tide, prompted the remaining fleet to continue to Tenby. Sixteen cruisers managed to finish the race under sail, with times varying from seven hours to 11 hours. The multitude of cruisers moored at Tenby was a sight to behold. The Tenby contingent fared extremely well. In division two, Rolly Squibbs in Sapphire came first, followed by Daniel Jackson in Artful Dodger. In division three, the first four places were taken by Tenby yachts. First was John Griffiths in Tejeda, followed by Roy Lawrence in Astra, Steve Lewis in Aeries and Blake Shaw in Slipstream, respectively. In fact, taking the race as a whole, the first six boats would have been from Tenby, with Tejeda leading the pack. Well done to all who took part in what turned out to be a marathon. The evening was rounded off by Karin Morris and Ruth Tebbutt, who put on a BBQ in Terry's absence (he was on sailing duties). All agreed that the food was of the usual superb standard, which will be repeated next Wednesday as usual. Terry wishes to thank Karin and Ruth for their outstanding efforts.
