The new season got underway with an encouraging number of sailors ready to do battle on the high seas. Officer-of-the-day, Johnsy Lewis set a course in keeping with the conditions which were relatively light. The final podium positions were: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 3. Rolly Squibbs and Helen Williams in a Redwing. Sailing as usual this Sunday, aiming for a prompt 11 am start. Last week, I briefly mentioned the adult 'come and try' series of evenings. I can now report that they will take place on May 25, 26 and 27. It is free of charge and all are welcome - contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further details. BLUES EVENING What an evening! Musicians from afar and wide flocked to the club and thoroughly entertained a large and appreciative audience. Many thanks again to Bruce Campbell and Terry Evans for co-ordinating the evening. Such was the success of the evening that, by popular demand, another evening of jamming has been arranged for Wednesday, April 20. Should this be another successful evening too, it is intended to put it on a monthly basis. FITTING OUT CARVERY This eagerly awaited food extravaganza takes place tomorrow (Saturday) evening. Sail training begins - Wednesday, April 20 (conditions permitting). Open meeting - Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 (BBQ on Saturday evening). Passage race - Saturday, June 11. Annual regatta - Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29. A newsletter has been circulated which includes important events and dates. The spring social programme has not been finalised to date.
