Several hardened sailors turned up on Sunday eager to do battle. A cold northerly, brisk breeze meant all had to wrap up well. Race officer, Terry Evans, set a starboard course which was slightly shorter than usual, so that all competitors had the opportunity to keep active to counter the wind chill. The final placings were as follows:
1. Daniel Jackson in a RS700; 2. Andrew Williams in a Laser; 3. Paul Johnson in a Solo; 4. Alan Lambert in a Solo; 5. John Roberts in a Topper.
Congratulations to all who took part and were undeterred by the cold conditions. Racing as normal this Sunday, with the final race of the year taking place on Boxing Day.
Last month, the annual prize-giving took place. There follows a summary of prize winners. Congratulations to all who received prizes, it is interesting to note that, over the season, 25 different helms took to the water. We look forward to the day when all take part on the same day.

At this point I must mention two members who have gained RYA qualification recently.
Nick Berridge has gained the demanding RYA senior instructor qualification which adds to the club's instructor team. Congratulations Nick and many thanks for all your endeavours throughout the year. There are many youngsters who have gained confidence in sailing through your efforts.
Another major qualification has been gained by Mark Dashfield. He has now qualified as a national race officer, a rare distinction indeed. Again, the club is indebted to Mark for his efforts, especially during National Championships where he, and Blake Shaw, take on board the challenging task of running these championships. Congratulations Mark, it is well deserved.
On a more general note, a club like ours cannot function without several key members. A huge thank you goes to these members who so freely give of their time!
On the social scene, the club continues to strive and cater for its members. Tomorrow evening, the Christmas Carvery and party takes place. I'm not sure of the members at the time of writing - there may be places left. Contact Anne Hitchings on 842817 for further details.
As well as sailing on Boxing Day, the club will be open for post Christmas revelry - there is also a raffle with 'major' prizes. Why not join us - all are welcome.
New Year's Eve celebrations will take place as usual, with Nick Berridge providing the music. Nick excelled last year, so expect much of the same. There will also be hourly prizes and food laid on. What more could you possibly ask for, see you there!
On January 11, the club is running a trip to the London Boat Show. For further details contact Tony Spiller on 812325.
DARTS
Guess what? Lost again, but the evening was a most enjoyable social occasion. At least we are consistent - played 7, lost 7. No darts this evening, members please note.
It's that time of year again - yes, the annual subscriptions are due on January 1. Should any member wish to pay earlier, there is an incentive in the form of a voucher.
For further details, contact membership secretary Sheila Spiller,on 812325.
Finally, on behalf of the commodore and club members, may I wish you all a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
