The usual large group of trainees turned up on Wednesday. It won't be long before some of these enthusiastic young sailors will be racing with the main fleet. This is due to the dedication and enthusiasm of our regular instructors, Blake Shaw, Ed Dashfield and Nick Berridge.
As mentioned last week, if any member or parent can help out, please turn up at 6 pm. If any of you 'older' fraternity wish to learn to sail you are welcome to join us on Wednesday evenings - contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further details.
Wednesday's race was keenly contested with the final 1-2-3 being: 1. Jonathon Lewis and Rolly Squibbs in a Redwing; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Tim and Alex Brace in a Mirror.
Well done Jonathon!
Our annual regatta took place last weekend. Saturday's racing was the usual format. Two races back to back followed by the evening pursuit race. The final positions for Saturday were:
Race 1: winners - Dave Edwards and Matt Ackland in a 49er.
Race 2: winners - Robin Wood and Ben Wood in a National 12.
First Redwing: Rolly Squibbs and Alistair McKay, who won the coveted Cadwallader trophy.

Pursuit race: 1. Robin Wood and Ben Wood in a National 12; 2. Dave Edwards and Matt Ackland in a 49er; 3. Steve Stubbs in a RS700.
The prize-giving followed a delicious barbecue which was much appreciated by all present. The prizes were presented by commodore Terry Evans and Madame vice-commodore, Jane Brace.
During the day, a crew from HTV Wales spent time on the water filming the racing. Skilful helming by Blake Shaw enabled the cameraman to take some extremely close-up shots of the action.
After the afternoon racing, various people were interviewed, including members and competitors: The footage gathered will be compressed to approximately five minutes which will be shown at 6 pm on July 22 in a programme called 'Hot Pursuits'.
On Sunday, the Round Caldey race took place. This attracted a fleet of 40 boats.
The start was a magnificent sight, with boats hoisting their spinnakers and majestically sailing off down the Sound. It wasn't long before the first boat crossed the finishing line.
Dave Edwards helmed his 49er superbly to finish the race in 48 minutes and 12 seconds, a new record! Soon after a plethora of RSs crossed the line, with all boats finishing in excellent times.
First Redwing was sailed by Rolly Squibbs and Alistair McKay, while first RS700 was helmed by Steve Stubbs.
Overall: 1. Dave Edwards and Matt Ackland in a 49er; 2. Steve Stubbs in a RS700; 3. Andy White in a RS700; 4. Daniel Jackson in a RS700; 5. Jerry Wales in a RS300; 6. Gareth Morgan in a RS700; 7. John and Paul Griffiths in a Fireball.
Prizes were presented by commodore Terry Evans, who thanked all competitors for supporting the regatta and hoped to see an even greater entry next year.
Dave Edwards, a national and world champion, thanked the club on behalf of all the competitors. He praised Tenby for its usual high standard of race management and looked forward to next year.
An event such as this can only happen with the co-operation and enthusiasm of members.
Many thanks go to race officers Billy Stubbs and Tony Spiller, and all on the committee boat for a well run regatta. Thanks also to the safety boat helms and crews who so freely gave of their time.
Sheila Spiller and Ann Hitchings worked tirelessly to keep the 'inner-man' contented, whilst commodore Terry Evans and Jane Brace beavered away on the land-based administration, such as entries, results etc.
Many thanks to all who contributed to the success of the weekend.
The weekend began on a musical note when the Greenhill Jazz Band played at the PTA barbecue on Friday evening. The evening was a great success, with thanks going to chef Terry Evans and Janet Lewis, chair-person of the PTA, for her invaluable contribution. We hope to have the jazz band back soon.
The social programme for the summer period is almost finalised - watch this space.
Sailing as normal this Sunday - see you all then.
