As Darth Vader joined forces with Doctor Who and Basil Fawlty had to accommodate two Hell's Angels grannies, the town of Tenby went mad once again for a few hours as they celebrated this year's annual Tenby Retained Firemen's Carnival. On what turned out to be one of 2007's few glorious days weather wise, the merriment started early in the day on Wednesday with festivities at the town's fire station in South Parade, where a feast of fun for all the family took place. As 5.15 pm approached, fancy dress walkers assembled in the Railway Station car park. While some of the colourful entrants were optimistic that the weather would be fine as they donned Hawaiin grass skirts, others were not so sure that the rain would hold off, even Noah and his ark (and his mate Dave) had been called to the event just as a precaution! Some of the lorry-borne entries were looking a bit sheepish as they waited to hit the town, while others were keen to carry a more serious message encouraging the town's people to recycle. Led by the Swansea East Carnival Display Band, the procession made its way through the streets of the town, before the town's Mayor, Clr. John Griffiths presented the winners with their well-earned prizes, following the judging by the Francis family, of Caerphilly. Once again, the main recipient of the money raised by Tenby's dedicated band of retained firefighters during the course of the day was the Firemen's Benevolent Fund, with the whole Tenby crew of firefighters giving their thanks to all who took part and attended, with special thanks going to the carnival's main sponsors Tenby House Hotel, and also Tredeml Print Design Studio and Printers.
