A Tenby pupil has been happy to see the sunny weather more than most this past few days as she raises funds for a local animal rescue centre.

Nine-year-old Emelia Blomquist, a pupil at Hafan Y Mor has been doing her bit for nature whilst also selling sunflowers she has grown from seed in her own garden on The Green to help raise money for Greenacres Animal Rescue - a small, non-profit, animal rescue centre in Pembrokeshire, which has shops based in Narberth, Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

“I planted sunflower seeds at the start of lockdown, to save the bees and, also to raise money for Greenacres Animal Rescue, as I hope contributions will make an impact, whether you donate £5 or £500, every little bit helps,” said Emelia.

“Thanks to all of you who have donated, we are so grateful for your kindness and generosity,” said her mum Emma.

“Emelia has raised over £500 so far, it’s been a really uplifting day!”

You can donate to the cause by searching for ‘Emelia’s fundraiser for Greenacres Rescue’ on Facebook.

A spokesperson for the Greenacres team said: “Greenacres has been truly blessed with our young supporters fundraising efforts during lockdown, and here we have Emelia, who has raised an amazing amount! We are really grateful.”

Sadly Greenacres shops remain closed due to the pandemic, meaning that the steady stream of income support to the charity is still not available.

“We have yet to be successful with any help via the local authority or the government, but with another announcement due soon we are hoping to have a more favourable outcome,” they continued.

“Ways in which you can help will be listed below, please help if you can, we really do appreciate that its a tough time for everyone, and we are really thankful for any assistance that can help helped to get us through.

“The kindness and generosity of our supporters since the start of the Covid-19 crisis has been remarkable, its so heart warming to see the wonderful general public coming together and offering support to those that need it.

“Not only to Greenacres this generosity has stretched from grass roots help with neighbours caring for the vulnerable in their communities to huge acts of kindness to the NHS, local, national and global charities.

“For that we are truly grateful, for us it has meant the reality of being able to stay open and save the animals that need us or close our doors and Pembrokeshire’s only all animal rescue centre be lost forever.

“Sadly the struggle isn’t over and we hope that with the continued support of our wonderful army we can continue to ride this storm until we are back to a reasonable normality.
