Now in its fifth year, Pint-sized Plays - the short five to 10-minute comedies and dramas performed in Pembrokeshire pubs - kick off another round starting next Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25, during Tenby Arts Festival week.
The plays being performed are the six winning entries and four runners-up in an international writing competition - based here in Pembrokeshire. This year again saw a big increase in the number of entries, with more then ever coming from overseas. One of the winners is in fact from Colorado, USA.
Short 10-minute plays are becoming more and more popular with mainstream theatres such as the Sherman in Cardiff and Pontardawe Arts Centre staging them. But Pint-sized Plays are unique in actually being performed in the bar areas of pubs themselves and totally free to watch - and you saw them here first!
Three plays will be performed in each of six pubs in Tenby and it is hoped that at least four different plays will be performed each evening. This is where Pint-sized Plays can be seen:
Monday, September 24: 7.30 pm - The Hope and Anchor; 8.30 pm - Normandie; 9.30 pm - The Crown.
Tuesday, September 25: 7 pm - The Galloping Major at New Hedges; 8.30 pm – Five Arches; 9.30 pm - The Buccaneer.
Pint-sized Plays then move up to Haverfordwest on October 1, before the season ends with a grand Script Slam at 4U/Theatr Gwaun in Fishguard on Saturday October 6. Here all 10 plays will be performed and the audience get to vote for their favourite script. And the winning script gets an inscribed Pint-pot for its writer, with a half-pint for the runner-up. Artistic director for Fluellen Theatre company, Peter Richards, will also be on hand to give awards for the best performances. Tickets (£5.50) can be booked on line at pintsizedplays.org.uk.
