The partnership responsible for the Objective 1 project for managing events in Tenby and the surrounding area recently held its first meeting since the approval of the grant. The newly-appointed staff were introduced to the Partnership Board, including local businessmen Tim Brace from FBM Holidays, Frank Booth from the Serendipity Group, Chris Osborne, of the Fourcroft Hotel, and Phil Thompson, of Texaco. There were also representatives of Tenby Town Council, Pembrokeshire County Council, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, PLANED and Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism. The board decided that, so as to be more inclusive of the surrounding area, the name should be changed from the Tenby Town Partnership to the Tenby and District Partnership. It was also decided to co-opt three people from the surrounding area, Mike Neal, who had recently been elected chair of PLANED's South East Pembrokeshire Enterprise Group, plus a representative of Saundersfoot, and one from the Kilgetty/Carew area. There was an open discussion at the meeting of the way forward for the project. Tim Brace made the point that marketing was crucial to the success of the events, so as to get more people attending. Frank Booth hoped that there would be good financial control, and it was confirmed by Chris Osborne that Tenby Events Management Ltd. had already appointed accountants to advise on financial management, and to carry out regular audits. Joan Asby, of PLANED, said that she would be happy for her staff to share their experience of managing an Objective 1 project, and provide training and other assistance. Christine Brown, chair of the partnership, told the Observer: "This was a good meeting launching the project. We look forward to working over the next three years with our business partners to achieve events that will increase tourism spend in Tenby and the surrounding area."
