Sir,
I refer to the letter from Mr. Douglas Fraser published on September 5.
In my view Tenby is, and hopefully, always will be an excellent holiday resort. Over recent years it has received an uplift in many areas. While I agree there have been drawbacks for residents like myself in the Cafe Culture, pedestrianisation etc., Tenby has to look forward and admit these implementations in towns and cities all over the United Kingdom have been nothing but a success - bringing more visitors and creating much needed work for young people who are the future of our economy.
An example of this can be seen in St. Ives, Cornwall, now experiencing prosperity (no place was suffering dilapidation more than here 20 years ago) through the implementation of pedestrianisation. Local businessmen are the first to admit that they opposed the scheme, but have since benefited greatly from it. Surely we must listen to those who have experience of such matters.
On a separate issue, should the New Hedges complex go ahead, it will not be likely to affect the businesses of Tenby, but will provide much needed jobs for the school leavers rather than have them leave Tenby to find work elsewhere and never return here to live.
James Phillips,
101 Upper Hill Park,
Tenby.
