Tenby Museum and Art Gallery will be closing for winter to undergo renovations funded by the Welsh Government, enhancing facilities and digital accessibility.

It was recently announced that the Museum and Art Gallery which sits on the seaside town’s Castle Hill is among 29 cultural sites benefiting from £3m Welsh Government funding for facility enhancements.

In total, 18 local museums, five libraries and six archive projects across Wales will receive funding to enhance their facilities and make them more accessible for visitors.

Money from the funding will go towards the project ‘A Fine Ship to Sail: The Future of Tenby Museum & Art Gallery’ - which will allow for improvements and renovation to the building which sits on Castle Hill around the picturesque harbour.

A spokesperson for Tenby Museum said: “Our last day open of the 2025 season will be November 29. We will then be closed until April 2026. During this closure we will be carrying out work funded by the Welsh Government's Priorities for Culture grant.

“Some of the planned work includes the replacement of our weather beaten windows. This will allow us to have a more stable environment in our galleries and stores to helping us better care for our collections.

“We will also be working hard to increase the volume of records we can search for digitally, and photograph items from the collections.

“During the closure period the museum will be manned, and projects will continue needing assistance from existing volunteers and any new volunteers, so if you have a spare couple of hours we would love to hear from you and what you can offer.

“In the meantime we will be bringing back our ‘museum from home’ concept, with photos of our collections being uploaded regularly.”
