Questions continue to be asked over Pembrokeshire County Council’s seemingly stalled plans to carry out improvements to Tenby’s historic market hall.
County councillor for the seaside town’s north ward Cllr Michael Williams has contacted the Local Authority’s Deputy Leader, Paul Miller for an update after continued reports of rainwater pouring through sections of the roof and worryingly running down the light fittings in the hall recently.
“It is grossly unfair on the traders that this level of neglect is allowed to continue, and something must be done,” remarked Cllr Williams.
“We have a vibrant colourful market with a good selection of small businesses operating in the market often in the most appalling conditions, which PCC are continuing to let down.
“I have also concerns about air quality in the building as there doesn't appear to be adequate extraction system.
“Over recent years I have had a number of meetings in the building in the vein hope that some basic improvement might be undertaken, nothing has happened, despite the CEO, MS and various offices of the authority attending.
“It is frankly a disgrace that this listed building has been allowed to deteriorate to this extent, and the commitment of the current traders is nothing short of remarkable,” added Cllr Williams who called for an urgent update heading into the winter, on what works are to be undertaken to secure the premises’ future and a detailed breakdown of all discussions that have taken place with the developers currently working in the adjacent building.
