For the first time in many weeks, we had no concert last week and so we've had three evenings of rehearsal. It's been a chance to go over some songs in our widening repertoire which we haven't sung in concert this season. The aim for next season (or Wilbur's latest aim for this week anyway) is to have a more varied programme of songs at different concerts. 'Wilbur', our musical director Ian Williams, has announced that we can now make up several programmes from the repertoire, so next season is going to be interesting for everyone including the choir.

But these evenings of rehearsal have also given us something to learn which, as a song is new to us, although the spoken words are very well known to us all. We have been rehearsing 'For the Fallen' in readiness for our attendance at the Remembrance Sunday service in Pembroke Dock on November 11. The piece uses the moving words of the second verse of Laurence Binyon's poem, 'Ode to the Fallen', but when arranged into song and music it is deeply poignant and we hope that we can do it justice on the day. It will not be for want of trying.

I often mention that people are welcome to attend our rehearsals and very often people do. Last week, we had a party of ladies from Ohio. One of them is on the board of the Cleveland (Ohio), Symphony Orchestra. According to an internet search they are one of 'the big five' orchestras in the USA and according to 'Wilbur' their musical director had better watch out as he tells us they were trying to poach him.

On the subject of internet searches, the choir has a dedicated search engine tenbymalechoir.easysearch.org.uk. Anyone can use this search engine and each time you use it, at no cost to you, a very small, but useful donation is made to choir funds. So if you would like to support your local choir with no expense, please make a note of this and use it instead of the more common search engines.

On this very evening, if you are reading your Observer on its Friday publication date, we will be performing at the magnificent Regency Hall in Saundersfoot. If you don't have tickets, then you are probably too late, but if you want to try for cancellations or a few unexpectedly free seats then ring Regency Hall enquiries on (01834) 811700. I am told there will be no tickets for sale on the door, so please do check in advance if you are travelling any distance. Whilst Tenby Male Choir has the occasional quieter night, we have become accustomed to large audiences for most concerts, but this concert seems to be going to break all records.

Your very own Tenby Male Choir will be singing songs from their repertoire including a mixture of songs from the hit shows, possibly popular songs from the '60s, along with Welsh and English hymns. Sometimes there is a chance for the audience to participate in a variety of ways, and full instructions will be given on the night by Ian 'Wilbur' Williams in that event.

But we are not alone on the night. The UK championship winning brass band from Goodwick will also be appearing and I, for one, am looking forward to hearing them. All in all, it should be a great evening for local people and holidaymakers.

This will be our final local concert, but the choir have one more concert engagement on the following weekend when we are away for the weekend in Worcester and will be singing at St. George's Catholic Church jointly with the Worcester Male Voice choir.

With no concerts last week, there are no photographs so I thought it was a good chance to publish some which had suffered 'the guillotine' during the year.

It will be back to our normal rehearsal programme following our weekend away when we will usually meet on Tuesday and Thursdays. Visitors are welcome (and often present) for rehearsals when it's a chance to see some of the hard work which goes into the song which an audience normally sees in a performance. There is also information about the choir on our website http://www.tenbymalechoir.org">www.tenbymalechoir.org and a Facebook account (just do an internet search for Tenby Male Choir Facebook) or you can get more information on anything about the choir on (01834) 813198.
