Last Tuesday, Tenby Male Choir performed to one of the largest audiences seen in St. Johns. The concert was in aid of the charity Crossroads which provides short respite breaks for unpaid carers, free of charge, by recruiting and providing trained carer support workers. MC David Blackmore soon had the appreciative audience entering into the spirit of the evening. Soloist for the evening was Sageston's own Sarah Benbow who works for Pembrokeshire Music Service as a vocal teacher. She is a soloist for the John S. Davies Singers and the BBC National Choir of Wales and last weekend was performing at the National Opera Studio in London. Sarah wowed the audience with 'The Lord Bless You' by Rutter, 'Songbird' by Eva Cassidy, 'On My Own' from Les Miserables, and 'Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again' from Phantom of the Opera. The choir was also on form thrilling the audience with a variety of songs from various shows, traditional folk songs and hymns. The audience impressed when they were invited to participate in Climb Every Mountain - the best yet, according to our MD Ian Williams. Bring Him Home from Les Miserables moved the audience to a rousing ovation as did the choir's unique rendering of Anthem from Chess. As usual, the concert came to a conclusion with a rousing American Trilogy. The resulting ovation summed up an evening of superb music and fun. Last Tuesday, we sang in St. Mary's which will be reported on next week. Looking ahead for July, we are in St. Mary's again on Tuesday, July 31. August is equally busy - more on that in a later article. The choir has already accepted a number of wedding engagements, but is still prepared to consider further requests. Anyone interested in booking the choir for a wedding should contact secretary Dave Stewart-Walvin on 01834 844926. Rehearsals take place twice a week from 8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Tenby and County Club on the Croft. If you interested in joining a vibrant and very friendly bunch of 'lads' please feel free to come along and listen at any of our rehearsals. You won't regret it.
