At the end of April, Tenby Male Choir embarked on its visit to participate in the eighth Cornish International Male Choral Festival (writes T.P.).

Our driver, Stephen, gave us a good start, with an exceedingly comfortable journey, which continued throughout the weekend to all the various venues down some fairly tight country roads.

As mentioned in a recent edition, we were just one of 60 choirs performing over the weekend and it was great to enjoy the company of our host choir, Nankersey, along with, ‘Grass Valley Male Voice Choir’, from the USA, and ‘Eight in The Bar’.

Tenby were pleased to be placed fifth in a very strong field in the under 40 voices category, which included among others, ‘Manifestum’ from Finland, ‘Phoenix Male Choir’ from Swansea, ‘Rossendale Male Voice Choir’, ‘Melbourne Welsh Male Choir’ and ‘The Grass Valley Male Voice Choir’.

The choir also had the opportunity to sing in Truro’s ‘Hall for Cornwall’, a very impressive auditorium, Falmouth Methodist Church, Trebah Garden and the Falmouth Hotel, and were very well received at each venue, with standing ovations.

So back to work, the choir have now started to prepare several new songs to include in our concert repertoire, and any gentlemen who would like to take up the challenge are welcome to join us on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Tenby and County Club on the Croft at 8 pm, or contact our secretary, David Stewart-Walvin, on (01834) 844296.

Our website,www.tenbymalechoir.org, which David maintains and keeps up to date, has lots of interesting information regarding the choir, including our concert programme for the year, live videos of performances and the opportunity to purchase one of our CD’s

Our next concert is on Thursday, May 25, at St. Andrew’s Church, Narberth, at 8 pm.
