Last Thursday, Tenby Male Choir gave a concert in St. Mary's Church to one of the largest audiences of the season. The appreciative audience had visitors from afar and wide, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.

Master of ceremonies David Blackmore was on good form which added to an evening of great music and dialogue.

The choir sang a wide and varies programme which included the powerful Y Tangnefeddwyr and the emotional Bring Him Home from Les Miserables.

Paul Varallo, resident soloist, was on good form singing six songs from his ever-increasing repertoire. They were Aderyn Pur (Oh Gentle Dove), Close Every Door (by Webber and Rice from Joseph's Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat) Aubade (by Lalo from the opera Le Roi d'Ys) Suo Gan, Stars (by Claude-Michel Schonberg, Alain Boublil and Herbert Kretzmer from Les Miserables) and Torna a Surriento (Come Back to Sorrento by Errnesto de Curtis).

As has become tradition, members of the audience were invited to join the choir's final song, An American Trilogy - the response was very positive adding to the success of the evening.

As usual, organist and St. Mary's music director, Dr. John Harrison, joined in the final part of the song which rounded off the evening.

One of Tenby's ex-residents, Malcolm Hughes, formerly of the Five Arches Newsagents, made a surprise and passionate plea to the choir to visit him in Newcastle where he has resided for several years. Such was his passion that the audience gave him a rousing ovation. We shall have to consider the request very seriously.

Our next concert is on Thursday, September 26, at St. Mary's which is part of Tenby Arts Week.

On Tuesday 24th, we will be holding a normal rehearsal evening where visitors or potential new members are always welcome to come and watch.
