Tenby has made the top five ‘staycation’ standings of seaside towns in the UK, according a new online study.
The number of people shunning long haul destinations for a ‘staycation’ at some of the most beautiful and picturesque places around Britain has risen by 10 per cent in 2017.
After collecting and analysing a range of data from various sources such as Tripadvisor and Trivago, website Marbles scored each town out of ten for every factor to come up with a ranking for ‘The Best Seaside Towns for a Staycation’ in a clash of the coasts.
In order to determine where each town would rank in the top 40, Marbles used a weighted index to provide a score out of 10 for each individual metric and then an overall index combining all metrics.
The metrics included - cost of hotel room per night and Airbnb; number of restaurants and pubs; taxi per two mile journey; number of attractions; annual sun hours and rainy days; number of fish and chip shops; and beach grading (according to the ‘Goodbeachguide).
In order to account for population differences, figures were adjusted to per 1,000 capita.
The study showed that Southwold in Suffolk topped the list of best spots for UK family ‘Staycations’, with Tenby coming in at number 4, just behind Bamburgh and Woolacombe, and ahead of the likes of Brighton and Blackpool.
The Pembrokeshire resort was the highest listed Welsh town, with Llandudno and Aberystwyth both coming inside the top 20.
