Tenby Junior School football team began their bid to win the Pembrokeshire Cup with convincing wins against Coastlands, St. Aidans and Mary Immaculate. Winning these matches successively put them through to the finals night on Friday, June 30, at Bridge Meadow in Haverfordwest. They were in a group with St. Florence, St. Francis and Narberth, and started off the tournament with a 0-0 draw against St. Florence. They had a very organized defence which made it hard for Tenby to score. Going into the next game against St. Francis, the team knew they had to step up their game if they wanted to go through to the knockout stages. They played some good football and came off the pitch with a 2-0 win. They started the third game from where they left off in the second game. They played some more good football and again came off the pitch 2-0 winners. They then knew that they had reached the semi- finals in which they would play Johnston. Tenby Juniors went on the pitch full of confidence knowing that they had every good chance of winning it and progressing through to the final. They started the game with confidence, but Johnston took an early lead which knocked their confidence right down. It was knocked down even further when they scored a second goal. Tenby went into half-time 2-0 down. However, they returned onto the pitch with their confidence back up, and some early pressure on the Johnston goal, lead to a corner for Tenby. This was taken by D'Arcy with everything going right for her. It was a wonderful corner right to Sam Butler's feet. He put it into the back off the net with the perfect volley. The fightback lead by Toby Rossiter was well underway. A brilliant shot by Hugo Wellum beat the 'keeper from 30-yards and leveled the scores out. They then went into extra time (golden goal) and it was a lovely goal from Jerome Mansbridge which won the game for Tenby. The team got applauded and cheered as they walked off the pitch. They then found out that they had Hakin in the final. Tenby then put in all the energy that they had left, but Hakin outclassed them and ended up beating them 1-0. Tenby played some very good team football and they were proud to be runners-up. Squad: Toby Rossiter (capt.), Hugo Wellum, Sam Butler, Jack Murphy, Corey Morris, Jordan Jones, George McBeth, David Webb, D'Arcy Escott, Daniel Fairlie, Jerome Mansbridge, Cheyne Lloyd, Ellis Morgan.
