Tenby U11s 11 tries Kidwelly 1

Andrew Price's Under 11s played a great game on Sunday at The Clicketts against a spirited Kidwelly side who were no mugs - their team contained three district players, including the Carmarthenshire captain, who had a very strong game.

Tenby won the toss and immediately kicked-off and put Kidwelly under pressure as wingers Harvey Johns and Henry McBeth chased the ball and clattered the opposition player who caught the ball. This early pressure told as Harvey weaved his way over to score after a strong run.

The Tenby pack held the upper hand throughout the game, as they battled hard for the ball when they didn't have it and, when they did, they tore into the opposition. Captain William Swales again won numerous turnovers and ran well with ball in hand, often passing out wide.

Dom Booth is proving to be a real livewire when he has his hands on the ball as he is so hard to stop. This was typified when he scored a great try.

Thomas Rees has made the hooker's berth his own with a few strikes against the head and always uses the ball sensibly. Owain Evans had an outstanding game with his controlled aggression and this was rewarded when he scored two great tries, coming in at an angle, keeping his body low and driving over the line with his legs pumping.

Gus P. Dick is another forward who has stepped up to the mark this season and there was non-stop tackling from the big man. Billy Kinnear, playing in the back row, was his usual self, putting in some great hits at the tackle area and running strong with ball in hand.

Iori Hicks, back at scrum-half, sniped at the opposition all game and gave great service with some lovely passes which kept Tenby on the front foot. Harri Williams ran hard at the opposition and found holes out wide as he ran some great angles and his passing game caused problems for the opposition. He also scored two tries.

Max Brindley, playing at outside centre, was again superb as he found hole after hole with his weaving runs. He also scored two tries - if there is an outside centre in Pembrokeshire better than Max, the coaches would love to meet him.

Ben Millward is solid at inside centre and always gets over the gain line, while not forgetting his defensive duties, which are top drawer.

The Tenby backline play with a great deal of confidence and this was demonstrated when winger Henry McBeth ran from his own line, dummying his way up the touchline and rounding the fullback to score in the corner. He also added another score.

Thomas H. Jones entered the line numerous times and was solid as the last line of defence, making some great smothering tackles. Lorcan Williams also gives another edge behind as he looks for the contact instead of the space. He had a few gutsy runs, always getting over the gain-line and making the ball available.

This was a great game to watch as Tenby played well throughout the match and were always looking to run the ball from everywhere.

Tenby won the game 11 tries to one. Match ball sponsors were Tenby Glass and Belvedere Residential Home.

Tenby have games coming thick and fast over the next month, with a game each Sunday. This Sunday, they have a tough game away at Narberth.

Tenby Tigers U11s

Tenby Tigers Under 11s had a great game against a battling Pembroke Dock side at The Clicketts last Sunday to win the game four tries to three.

Tenby, in all, played 14 boys in the Tigers squad, with all starting to develop a style that plays to their strengths.

Captain Ben James had a great game, not only scoring two tries, but also doing his fair share of tackling.

The front row of Morgan Sparey, Thomas Griffiths, Morgan Rees and Alex Probert are forming a great combination and are working hard to get around the pitch and carry the ball into contact.

Another to shine was new player Stephen Ward, playing his first game of rugby after working hard in training the last couple of weeks. He has great upper body strength, is quick and is fearless when he makes the tackle - the coaches are very pleased with his progress.

Lorcan Williams had a dogged game in the second row and is full of energy throughout the game.

With Dylan and Harrison dropping out early Sunday due to flu, the coaches had to try a different combination at half-back.

Henry came in at scrum-half and Thomas played outside-half. This pair gave the team great balance and both made an impact on the game, with Henry producing some good runs and Thomas scoring from his own line, throwing a few dummies on the way.

Parry Phillips, Thomas Emanual and John Williams also worked hard behind, getting stuck-in as the opposition played a good style of rugby, with the ball going along their back line all the time.

The Tenby backs marked the opposition well, but sometimes missed their first-up tackle, which meant them getting over the gain-line three times to score three great tries.

Dewi Thomas played very well, not only battling his way over to score, but saved a certain try to make sure Tenby won the match.

This was an excellent game between two evenly-matched sides. It was played in great spirit and both sets of coaches were delighted by the quality shown by their teams.

Next Sunday, the Tigers are away to Fishguard.
