Tenby Under 7s tag rugby team rounded off a magnificent season last Sunday with a superb performance in the county tournament held at Narberth.

The competition had been twice postponed and that was the main reason for only nine teams entering at this late stage of the season.

Organiser and WRU district representative, Kenny Davies, explained to all coaches at the start that the emphasis at this level was on enjoyment and it was a delight to see the Seasiders starlets having so much fun in the pool stages.

They powered through their group beating Crymch, Pembroke Dock, Narberth and Neyland B, scoring 18 tries and conceding only four.

Alex Wainwright and Archie Hughes are already proving a lethal combination, scoring seven tries each, with others coming from the powerful George Rossiter (2), the improving Dylan Thomas and the influencial Rio Proctor (when we could get him off the five-a-side football pitch!)

The lads met Neyland A in the semi-final and played their best rugby of the day to win 5-2, with Alex and Archie (2) again scoring, as well as Iwan Thomas and Taran Richards both deserving of their tries.

Charlie Sangster, Callan Robinson and Liam Cole all worked hard as players were rested in preparation for the final against Whitland.

The Borderers had played one game less in their pool and looked fresher from the start, scoring two early tries.

Tenby gamely battled back, wtih Alex and Archie scoring cracking tries again.

With a minute to go, the score was 3-3 and it was Whitland who deservedly scored last to sneak a keenly contested final.

Well done boys - you did yourselves proud. Thank you for your gifts to the coaches - that's why we were crying! Thanks to all mums and dads and to waterboy Ifan Thomas - your turn next year.

Any seven-year-olds interested in joining this happy and successful team, please contact either Chris Hughes or Justin Richards.
