Tenby Swifts U9s
Tenby had a great game on Sunday, playing a much-improved Pembroke side at a freezing Clicketts.
Tenby evenutally won the game, scoring six tries to Pembroke's one. Pembroke, to their credit, were always looking to move the ball wide and were also very committed in defence and kept the Tenby runners at bay.
Tenby Under 9s played 18 boys, with all the boys having a good run-out. Try scorers were Thomas (2), Harri, Ben, Billy and Gethin.
There was also a first start for new recruit Dario Rossi, who carried the ball well and was eager to get stuck in with the tackles.
This Sunday, the A team are away at Camarthen Quins and the B team are also away at Penygroes.
New players are most welcome to attend training at the astroturf in Tenby, 5-6 pm on Thursday.
HAVERFORDWEST U15s 17 pts. TENBY U15s 15
This was a match played at the Merlins Bridge ground in such atrocious conditions that the teams had to change pitches just 10 minutes into the first half.
The appalling weather meant that it was a game for the forwards, and the Tenby pack took on the challenge with great determination.
The scrummaging was solid and they were determined to keep possession in the rucks and mauls. They played as a tight unit and when they fed the ball out to the back line, then the likes of Elliott, Gregg and Luke were able to make a break and Gain much-needed ground.
Tenby were deservedly ahead at half-time and looked to have the game won. Unfortunately, in the second half, Haverfordwest had the advantage of the slope and a fresh onslaught proved too much for the weary and soggy Tenby boys.
Haverfordwest edged closer and showed the importance of not only scoring the tries, but converting them, as they won by a single conversion.
It really was a great game to watch, and a great effort by Tenby, who were in much need of the hot showers and sausage and chips kindly provided by the hosts.
