FOLLY FARM UNDER 8s
On a beautiful crisp Sunday morning, Tenby Under 8s entertained Llangwm for the second week running. This week's game was a lot closer, with Llangwm giving the boys a real test.
Tenby continued their fine run of form which has seen them come unstuck only once this season. The reason for the boys' success is that already, they have played 16 games this season and the second string team have played nine games. Because of their weekly games, the boys always turn up in numbers every week to train, which then flows into the games on the Sunday.
This week's game was won by Tenby, scoring 15 tries and conceding only six. Man-of-the-match was Harri Williams, who scored five tries and who was superb in defence. Other try scorers were Max Brindley, who scored three tries and was always in support, Billy Kinnaer, Dominic Booth and William Swales, who also had fine games, all scoring two tries each. Ben Millward finished of the scoring with a jinking run.
The boys wouldn't have scored the tries if it wasn't for the efforts of Iori Hicks, Dylan Scotcher and Harvey Bowles, who was playing his first game in the Sharks team. Henry McBeth and Jamie Ebsworth all contributed to a cracking game in attack and in defence.
The Tigers also won their game against Llangwm, scoring 14 tries and conceding five. Star of the show in this game was Thomas Harding Jones, who was excellent throughout and was rewarded with seven tries for his efforts.
Connor Lewis also scored his first try for Tenby during the game, while Harvey Johns scored a great try jinking through the defence. Rhys Davies, meanwhile, scored a cracking try from his own half. Henry and Alex are also pushing for places in the Sharks team after having good all-round games and scoring two tries each. Fletcher Dyer is also growing in confidence and is now looking to pass before contact.
Gethin Kelly is also pushing for a place in the Sharks team because his defence is always top drawer. Angus and Nathan are both new recruits and are showing promise for the future.
This Sunday, the Folly Farmers have a home game against Neyland, who are always a difficult side to play and the boys will need an early night on the Saturday, especially Ben Millward!
Thanks to Doc Kelly for doing a superb job of refereeing the game last Sunday. All the coaches have a real headache picking the Sharks team with so many boys putting their hands up for selection, and with Lewis Sarrionandia and Harry Cook both available this week, it will be even more difficult Coaches Chris, Rob and the Doc need to know in the next couple of weeks how many boys and parents are going up to Stradey Park on May 9 or the 10 as the Folly Farmers will be playing at half- time. They need to know numbers as they have to book a bus, and the boys and coaches will be having hospitality after the game courtesy of a kind sponsor.
Training for school Year 3, i.e. Under 8s, is as always at the Astroturf every Thursday 6-7 pm. Everyone welcome.
tenby U9s 4 tries lLangwm 1
Tenby Under 9s were at home on Sunday and had a full morning of rugby with two games to be played. Firstly they kicked off against Llangwm, a team they met the previous week and convincingly won. The game started hard, but Danny settled the nerves by scoring a great try in the corner.
Llangwm fought back hard and it paid off with a well-deserved try to draw level at 1-1 at half-time. The second half was more of the same, with hard tackling from Jack Tucker and Jack Cummins and great passing from Jac Waters giving Jack Broadhurst the opportunity to run down the pitch, only to be tackled by two Llangwm boys. But this didn't stop Jack, as with the try line in his sights, he lowered his head and pushed on, brushing them aside and dived for the line - 'great try'.
Shortly after, Dec had a great run before passing to Jack Tucker to score Tenby's third try, supported well on his shoulder by Danny.
Llangwm's heads never dropped and they kept the Tenby boys on their toes.
Tom produced some great tackles, always stopping Llangwm from gaining any ground, as did Jack Tucker, and when the ball fell loose, ever-ready Ryan scooped it up and ran from his own half to score the final try for Tenby. A well-deserved win of 4-1.
crymYCH 3 tries tenby U9s 3
Tenby's second game of the day was against Crymych.
The last time these boys met, Crymych came away with the win and the Tenby boys were determined not to let this happen again. Crymych started well and scored almost immediately.
The Tenby boys pulled up their socks and after good tackling from Tom and Jack Tucker, Jack Broadhurst scored the first try, running in from his own half.
Precise passing from Jac Waters and hard tackles from Tucker could not stop Crymych from scoring two more tries, however.
Danny had a break and ran for the try line, but with Crymych defenders in hot pursuit, he didn't quite make it.
Ever-faithful Jack Broadhurst picked up the ball and went over for his third try of the day. Jack Cummins and Dec kept the defence tight and their tackles proved crucial in keeping Crymych at bay.
Crymych made a break and were stopped in their tracks by another crunching tackle by Tucker. They went down in a ruck and all the boys worked hard, constantly talking to each other. The ball was not in sight, but from nowhere out came Ryan Conbeer and ran half the pitch to score an excellent try. The game ended 3-3. The boys were happy with the result, as it was a hard, evenly-contested game, which was most enjoyable to watch. Thanks to coach Carl, Anton and all supporters. Get well Titch.
