TENBY U9s v Haverfordwest
The game started with excitement, the weather was cold and windy and the spectators were ready. The whistle blew and Tenby were straight in with the tackles, forcing Haverfordwest out of play. There were many rucks and driving forward play. Tenby worked as a team, using every player, and each one worked extremely hard. Toby, Tom and Danny were always on the run, passing the ball between them. There were many great tackles, using the legs and forcing Haverfordwest to drop to the floor. Tucker, Declan, Morgan, Jack B and Jack W were there to pick up the balls and push forward. Tries kept coming. Jack Broadhurst worked very hard, producing five, and Danny, Toby and Jack Tucker had one each. It was a great game to watch, all boys got stuck in, picking themselves up from the bottom of the piles, but always giving 100 per cent. Thanks must go to coach Carl Wainwright who has instilled this dedication into the team.
TENBY U9s v LLANGWM
Sunday's game was another excellent win for Tenby, who travelled to Llangwm on a beautiful sunny day. Tenby did not have any subs, so the pressure was on. On a very narrow pitch, they were a little crowded, but once again went out in force. Indeed, they are a team to be proud of, great friends on and off the pitch, working hard together and producing some excellent runs from Danny, Ryan, Tucker, Jack W and Jack B and Tom Murphy. Sam played an excellent all round game as he battled and ran his heart out. The games were split into two and played in four halves, so there were many tries. Jack Broadhurst had a good game, scoring five tries, while Tom Murphy had a game to be proud of, running and regaining possession very well. Jack Tucker and Ryan put pressure on the boys when needed, Jack Walters, a quiet boy, but not on the pitch, produced runs from nowhere, while Danny will always be able to deliver the ball, running and scoring the all-important tries. Try scorers were Ryan 6, Jack W, Danny 2, Jack Tucker 3, Sam. Another enjoyable Sunday morning and thanks again to Carl and all the supporters.
THE FOLLY FARM U8s
Tenby Under 8s travelled to Llangwm last Sunday and came away with an excellent away win, winning the game by 17 tries to four. The captain for the day was Billy Kinnear and he chose to play up the slope in the first half. Llangwm got off to a flying start, scoring the first two tries, which really caught the boys out. After a stern talking to from coaches Rob Hicks and Chris Williams, who pointed out similar mistakes they had made the previous week, the boys got stuck in. Rob reorganised the defence, pushing Jamie Ebsworth and Ben Millward up in front of the other boys, and it seemed to do the trick as Ben and Jamie didn't stop running all game, chasing down the opposition. Max Brindley and Harri Williams caused havoc in the Llangwm defence as they scored four tries each. Iori Hicks is following in his father's footsteps as he is now starting to control the game and is always on hand. Llangwm scored a further two tries during the first half, leaving the half-time score eight tries to four to Tenby. During the half-time team talk, Rob and Chris emphasised that the boys must pass the ball before they get tagged and that they must work harder in defence, and always make sure they use their six tags when attacking. The Tenby Under 8s really impressed during the second half; not only did they prevent Llangwm scoring, they scored nine cracking tries through their team work. New player Nathan, playing his first game, really got stuck in and gave a superb pass for Harvey Johns to score down the touchline. Lewis Sarrionandia also played his best game for the team and scored a superb solo try. Dylan Scotcher covered every blade of grass on that pitch and with Billy Kinnear, shored up the middle of the pitch and was at hand to score two tries himself. Hopefully for the coaches, Henry McBeth will continue with the attitude he showed on Sunday, for not only was he superb in defence, he also showed plenty of aggression in attack and scored two cracking tries through his doggedness. Other try scorers were Iori Hicks and Ben Millward, who scored two tries. The coaches were also pleased with Fletcher Dyer, who has only just started playing and is growing in confidence every week. The coaches have a real headache next week selecting the team, as there were several players missing this week, and they wish William Swales a speedy recovery. Training for the Under 8s, as always, is at the Astroturf, Tenby, 6-7 pm - everyone welcome. The coaches have also arranged a trip to Stradey Park, Llanelli, during May and will play at half-time during the Scarlets' game against Edinburgh.
