TENBY 5 CARDIGAN 4
Tenby Under 9s travelled to Cardigan on Sunday for their third match of the season. Wearing new shirts sponsored by Lewis, Lewis and Co., the boys looked hot stuff. From the first whistle to the last, this was a close game. Tenby just managed to come out top, as both sides passed, tackled and ran the ball well. Try scorers for Tenby were Lewis, Joe and William. Team: Daniel, Liam, Richard, Joe, Alex, William, Edward, Ben, Dylan and Lewis. The boys and parents wish to thank coaches Tim Roberts, David Lewis and Paul Criddle for believing in them and special thanks to James Criddle for his on-field help and support.
UNDER 8s
Tenby Swifts Under Eights put on a tremendous display in Fishguard in a minis tag rugby festival last Sunday. They played three matches, fielding teams of seven from a squad of 13. Tenby beat the Pembroke Dock Harlequins 9-4, with Dan Davies being the prominent try scorer throughout; a lovely balanced runner with a 'David Campese' sidestep. Morgan Scourfield and Tom Kinnear both worked hard in the match, showing a great turn of speed to score a try each. Many tags were taken by Bethan Machen and Billy Kinnear. Jacob Knox and Donavan Griffin set up some lovely tries and brought the ball down the field with lightning pace. In the next game, Tenby played the home side, Fishguard, who had a team of big, strong players. The final score was Tenby 6 Fishguard 4. There was some great play by the Swifts, with team changes to allow fresh legs to keep up with the pace. In this game, Max Sarrionandia was a very convincing figure, notching up some great tries with blistering runs. Rhys Davies grabbed an essential try and again Dan Davies kept the score up. Dan Wainwright, Jacob Thomas and Ben and Ross Luxton also kept the game flowing with plenty of tags and passes. In the final game against Crymych, Tenby put up a very brave performance, but lost in a nailbiting finish, 7-5. Again the Tenby players were very impressive and played together as a team. The try scorers were Dan, Max and Morgan. Thank you to Fishguard for hosting the festival and providing refreshments for so many players and supporters from all over the county.
TENBY SWIFTS U15s 95 pts. PEMBROKE U15s 0
In a one-sided match last Sunday, the Swifts Under 15s racked up the massive points total of 95 without reply against a visiting Pembroke team who unfortunately were not in the game. Fifteen tries were scored, 10 of which were converted, in an immaculate performance by the home team. It was to the visitors' credit that they never gave up and, in fact, were attempting to run the ball right up to the final whistle with what little possession they had, but they could do nothing to halt the Tenby avalanche of points in the second half. Tries were scored by Jamie Williams (5), Tom Harland (4), Chris Heesom (3) and forwards Yannic Parker, Joseff Morris and Roy Osborne with one apiece, with Jamie Williams converting 10. The outside backs, as can be seen from the scoring, were provided with plenty of ball, with Jason Ronowitz prominent in the lineouts and the loose and tight forwards Sam Ferguson, Robert Jones and Andrew Evans delivering powerful performances, taking the ball up the field from loose maul situation. The back row were an attacking force, harrying the opposition when they had the ball and alert flankers Joseff Morris and Roy Osborne were rewarded with tries for their work. Captain and number eight Jack Baker was another with a direct approach and he led his side with distinction. Will Hughes slotted in well at prop when he was moved in from the wing, which enabled Luke Arthur to make his debut out wide. Yannic Parker was his usual ebullient self, contributing with direct play in the loose and accurate lineout throwing. The half-backs were provided with a lot of clean ball and it enabled Kiefer Thomson to add to his game with some probing runs to complement his accurate passing from the set-pieces and rucks. Patrick Roberts filled the outside-half spot vacated by absence and injury with distinction and his well- timed passes provided the outside backs with good ball. Utility back Matthew Davies was solid at inside centre and allowed the ball to go wide for Jamie Williams, Tom Harland and Chris Heesom to show their paces. The pleasing feature about this performance was that the Tenby team did not allow their concentration to lapse, as often happens when teams are building up large scores, and that discipline will serve them well for the tougher matches to come in the new few weeks. Also Pembroke, although heavily defeated, took it with dignity and are commended. It will be a much sterner challenge this Sunday when the Swifts entertain their old rivals Whitland in what promises to be a classic encounter - albeit a 'friendly' and not a cup match. Tenby fielded: Chris Heesom, Tom Harland, Jamie Williams, Mathew Davies, Will Hughes, Luke Arthur, Patrick Roberts, Kiefer Thomson, Sam Ferguson, Yannic Parker, Robert Jones, Andrew Evans, Jason Ronowitz, Roy Osborne, Jack Baker (capt.), Joseff Morris.
