Tenby Under 11s welcomed Cardigan from across the border for their second match of the season against them. Cardigan had narrowly won the first match. Tenby came out looking fresh and hungry and, receiving the kick-off, immediately attacked the Cardigan 22. After sustained pressure by the forwards, Tenby were rewarded with a try by Jack Butler. Cardigan got a try back, but from the restart, Tenby again attacked and produced some excellent long passing amongst the backs, setting each other into space. The first half was an extremely hard fought physical game, with the forwards fighting hard for all the ball they got. Mathew once again showed his skill at ripping the ball, and both teams were rewarded with second tries, James Oakley going over for Tenby. Both teams came out for the second half looking keen, but unfortunately, after such a well contested first half, the second half was extremely scrappy, with a few players showing their tempers. Man of the match James Oakley scored once again to collect his brace, but Cardigan, who looked a well-organised side, came back hard, scoring twice before the end. The Tenby team played well in all departments, tackling well, with David Duckworth Elliot Randall and Ben Thomas making some really impressive hits on much bigger players. Rob Luly, as captain, made his usual good runs and Jake Proctor, playing at number 10, showed his fast pace and skill. David Dunfee had his usual solid performance, with great tackling and passing. Well done to all the team. The ball was made available due to hard forward play, which ensured good second phase possession for the skilled backs to exploit the full width of the pitch. Let's see another good performance in the next match, with perhaps a win! Tenby fielded: Dylan Griffin, Robert Luly (capt.), Jack Butler, Matthew Lewis, James Oakley, Joe Dennis, Elliot Randall, David Dunfee, Jake Proctor, David Duckworth, Ben Thomas. Coaches: Myrddin Dennis and Dave Randall.
TENBY UNITED U8s 4 CARDIGAN U8s 3
Tenby Under 8s played host to Cardigan on Sunday, having narrowly lost their previous encounter with them. Cardigan started the strongest and scored an early soft try. This seemed to wake the boys up and immediately from the restart the ball was spun out to Archie, who scored an excellent individual effort. Cardigan came back at Tenby, who held their defensive line well, with some strong tackling from Tom and Billy, but the pressure was too great. After some good play by both teams, Jacob carried the ball forward and passed, out of the tackle, to Luke who levelled the scores. In the second half, Tenby continued where they left off. William made an excellent break into the heart of the Cardigan defence, passing inside to Richard, who was held up just short of the line. From the turnover ball, Cardigan attacked the Tenby line, and despite excellent chasing back by Morgan, they managed to get over the whitewash. From the restart, the ball was spun along the line to Ben who, having looked dangerous in attack all game, showed good pace to get in at the corner. The game was evenly poised at three tries apiece. With the clock ticking away, Ben made another excellent break down the wing and passed inside to Donovan, who side-stepped his way around two Cardigan tacklers to score the winning try. This was Tenby U8s best team performance so far; they passed the ball well, supported the ball carrier, tackled strongly and held their line of defence. A special mention must go to new debutants Miguel, Max and Will, who all had good games, showing lots of potential. Tenby fielded: Tom, Billy, Morgan, Donovan, Jacob, Archie, William, Richard, Ben, Luke, Miguel, Max, Will.
