Tenby Swifts Under 14s continued their remarkable points spree in this early autumn clash with Milford at Heywood Lane on Sunday. Thirteen tries were scored in all, with nine being converted, against a heavyweight side who tested the Swifts in the tight, but were no match for them in the loose. The scoring was opened and closed by centre Jamie Williams with tries in the first and last minutes of the match, and also getting one in the middle to complete a hat-trick. Pairs of tries were scored by Chris Heesom while playing in the centre, James Criddle and Thomas Nash from the wings, and Yannick Parker at hooker, while forwards Jack Baker and Jason Ronowitz also weighed in with a try apiece in the second half. Patrick Roberts added eight conversions and Jack Guerrero one to complete the scoring. Toby Smith, making his first appearance of the season at centre, was unlucky not to score when over the line, and the backs were set up well by a fine service from Kiefer Thomson, combining with Guerrero, who are settling into a useful half-back combination. Matthew Davies was back to his favoured fullback slot and added his contribution, coming into the line at will. The forwards had their work cut out holding the powerful Milford pack and at times conceded ground in the scrums and rucks. However, the pack's athleticism showed around the field, with flankers Joseff Morris and Roy Osborne prominent. Robert Jones made a useful contribution in his first start at loose-head, while others in the pack were shuffled between back, second and front rows, where Daniel McDermott and Andrew Evans played strong games. The team's development will now unfortunately be put on ice for a few weeks due to District matches and half-term holiday commitments, so it doesn't look as if there will be a game until October 31, when the Swifts are due to play Carmarthen Quins! Tenby Swifts fielded: Matthew Davies (capt.), Chris Heesom, James Criddle, Jamie Williams, Thomas Nash, Toby Smith, Jack Guerrero, Kiefer Thomson (in the backs), and Robert Jones, Yannick Parker, Andrew Evans, Daniel McDermott, Jason Ronowitz, Patrick Roberts, Roy Osborne, Jack Baker and Joseff Morris (in the forwards).
CRYMYCH U12s 12 pts. TENBY U12s 12
The Seasiders travelled to Crymych last weekend, and with Curtis kicking into the wind, forwards Aaron, Patrick and Big Ashley had to make hard tackles from the word go. When Loui fed the ball wide through Deri and Chris M., who passed on to Rob, who should be on hand to make a try-saving tackle but Ross - yes, Ross, because Crymych had to use four of Tenby's boys! Also wearing the home side's colours were Ieuan, Jimmy and Dan Robins. Crymych were a well organised side now and came back fast to cross Tenby's line and make it 5-0. Curtis again kicked off into the wind for young Phill and Alex to chase and gain good ground before feeding the ball wide to Dan E, who passed outside to Rob for Tenby's first try. This was converted by Curtis to give Tenby a narrow 7-5 lead, and that's how the score remained at half-time. In the second half Tenby had the gale force wind behind them and made some good breaks, with Patrick having a go at the Crymych backs, with support from Ryan and Cai. This led to a ruck being formed under the posts, where Loui was on hand to gain possession and go over for an unconverted try, making it 12-5. Tenby kept the pressure on Crymych with good play from Beef and Carwyn, who played their little boots off. Both teams continued to play good running rugby, however, and with five minutes remaining, Crymych levelled the scores with their second try, which came after a move from deep in their own half involving the four Tenby boys. The try was converted to make the final score 12-12. Thanks go to all the travelling fans. Men-of-the-match were Ross, Ieuan, Jimmy, Dan R.
